Hi all
Just wondered your opinion on the reloop-rp 7000 techie build alike lookalike? Does it sound as good as a techie. I am just stuck as I don't wanna make a mistake,but the reloop looks well built and strong.
Any opinions please,!!!

I'm sitting here wondering:
Who, here, would a) have one to compare against in the first place and b) have another in upgraded form to compare against?

As for strong, well can't comment - I haven't chucked either a Techie or Reloop against a wall to see who survives :doh:.
That said, it is indeed nicely made.

BUT you do face a real problem: It is a totally different beast when it comes to pimping it up - no Techie compatible components to swap against , e.g. platter, bearing, arm...getting the idea?
("Achromat will fit" Who said that?)
So, once you've bought it you are stuck with it as standard...unless that is, someone brings out variants that fit it specifically.:eek:

Now, I wonder. Who'd be silly enough to do that?...and face the wrath of the gods? :eek::eek:

So, you can see, good or not, there is an underlying conundrum from both your as well as a manufacturer's point of view.

(How many would you like? :lol:)

Whan it comes to DJ type decks, if it doesn't have "Technics" or "Vestax" written on it - leave it well alone!

Hi Kieran,

Oh dear. Sorry to have been the bearer of bad tidings, I mean "the truth" but glad I got in first and fast and "told you so".

For my part and for what its worth, no axes to grind (well not that many), I have Geminis, Vestaxs, Numarks, the odd Techie (or more) and yes, you guessed it Reloop!
(Saddo? Guilty as charged)

Hmm. St Paul's Cray - old stomping ground and many memories. If you are interested in the Reloop, when I'm next up London way, I can swing by and show you.

That's done my street cred good and proper.
(Having got it, I've got to do something with it...of course a Techie will also be in the boot!)

That's why I said "DJ type decks" and not "DJ decks" - i.e. those with direct drive platters, fast start and stop and a big pitch slider!

Lol! Well, it's important to make the distinction, lest it reinforces the popular misconception (amongst the uninitiated) that the SL-1200/1210 was designed as a DJ deck, which as you know is completely untrue.

For proof of that fact, all one has to do is look at an original one from 1972, where there is a remarkable absence of any pitch slider (see below)...! ;)

The original 'Techie' - the SL-1200 MKI (an out-and-out audiophile designed turntable):

Even better, a Technics SL-120 (sans slider and tonearm! :eek:) What a shame that this was discontinued long before the SL-1200/1210...

Whereas, the good old Vestax was, is and always will be, a DJ deck - although, undoubtedly it is one of the better sounding ones :)

Hi Marco
back in the 70s my mate had an sl-1300 ,stunning deck,i was thirteen and still remember how bloody cool it looked with its techy looking orange shard of glass that served as the strobe !
That deck stayed in my head for years,and strangely ,i never associated it with the 1210!
just to let ya know i bought a lovely example of a 1210mk11 from ebay,absolutely mint!
even unfettled it knocks the spots of my project essential!
and now i have one,i realise what a work of art it is!
