View Full Version : Linn Lounge presents the Beatles

I've attended Linn's presentation of the Beatles master tapes at my local hi fi store. Linn sales force were on the premises, explaining to us how at last we can now hear the Beatles the way god intended us to hear them. They said that they will be playing high resolution masters (24 bit) FLACs on their state-of-the-art audio system.

Fantastic. I couldn't wait to hear my favourite band in their full glory. But the sound that started pouring out of the high-end Linn speakers was anything but authoritative. Basically, with the boomy, out-of-step bass and the grating, metallic highs, the overall impression was identical to going to the local Best Buy store and listening to their shitty home theatre sound system.

How's this possible? Was it the room? Has anyone else attended these events, and what's your impressions?

What? You mean they had genuine master tapes playing on a suitable deck. I cannot see EMI letting them out willy-nilly - even to Linn.

They are 24bit copies of the 24/44.1 remasters used for the vinyl and USB release campaign I would think. Linn equipment always sounds crap anyway. Linn marketing bullshit as usual.

I have those 24/44.1 FLACs that were selling as the Apple USB (in the shape of an Apple). These FLACs sound incredibly good on my system, especially now with the Bushmaster MKII DAC. I'm very surprised that Linn couldn't present those remasters in a better light, because they are some of the best sounding material you could wish for, especially if you intend to showcase your high-end gear.
