It was built for my own use about 18 years ago and was never intended to look neat, tidy, finished etc so please don't try and infer anything about work carried out for customers from these pics!

It still works! Using it now with the new head amp I've just built: http://theartofsound.net/forum/showthread.php?28807-Any-interest-in-MC-head-amps for that thread...

I'll reserve overall judgement as to the sound for now as it's not been switched on for maybe 15 years.. I'm just happy it didn't blow up and still works! many capacitors to be burnt in as if from new.... or burnt out! :eek:

You should be proud of your choke smoothed power supply. Whilst it used to be in common use with valve circuitry, their use was rare in SS designs (chokes, with all that iron costs money!). To my knowledge, the only SS amp designs that used choke-smoothed power supplies were the Quad 50D and 50E monoblocks and a Anthony Michaelson design.

You should be proud of your choke smoothed power supply. Whilst it used to be in common use with valve circuitry, their use was rare in SS designs (chokes, with all that iron costs money!). To my knowledge, the only SS amp designs that used choke-smoothed power supplies were the Quad 50D and 50E monoblocks and a Anthony Michaelson design.

The choke is a small and pretty irrelevant aspect of the overall design.... More to the point is the full regulation of both HT and LT. In the case of the HT by a fully "floating" "super regulator" type of topology which feeds the phono stage via a 25 way cable and canon "D" connector. This allows separate wiring back to the PSU to the 3 further "super regulators", one per valve, in the phono stage itself.

I worked for Musical Fidelity at the time of the P180 and A470 and Anthony Michaelson certainly didn't have anything to do with designing them! T'was TdP ;)

Like I say it was made a long time ago... from whatever was to hand and suitable for the task, whatever it's age etc... did you spot the '60's electrolytics mounted on the chassis? :D
