Cheap upgrades?

Feet £30-£100

Then arm £50-£300

then tonearm cable £30-£200

then cartridge £30+

then power supply £135+

then bearing £450

then platter £400+

all above available from more than one vendor

Why not listen to it as is first?

The 1210 is worthy of its place in hifi history and i ran one for many years with all the well known mods , one thing i would say is that the stock arm is worth a bit
of time and investment along with the 1210s own power supply once it is removed and re-housed externally.

What cart is on it?

I'd say feet (I used techniboots) and an achromat, possibly a cart, if its not up to much, take the psu off board...

Not in that order per se.

Thanks people for the info :)n at the moment its using a Stanton 500 the chap i got the TT off bought it new had the cart fitted used it for a while then stashed it in his his loft,so think im gonna go for a cart first as the stanton doesnt sound to good and a mat and feet if anybody has any for sale kicking around. I got the TT for £15 so worth spending a bit on it i think.

the only mm i've heard on a 'home' 1210 with a stock arm is a goldring 1042

and very good it was too! they're £250ish new, but you might one for around the £120 mark used if you're lucky.......

the achromat is a very good, £75 upgrade though. deffo worth it.

I've a nearly new stock tonearm inc base with vta adjuster, cable psu and rca cable (all stock stuff) as I'm about to replace the tonearm.

I've also got the 5mm rubber technics mat and a technics 3mm felt mat plus I've two technics headshells one of which hasn't been used and is as new, if your interested in any of these pm me.

Try giving the Stanton a really good scrub, as they have tips of a railway sleeper and can clog up, love mine.:)

£15 ? - I morally couldn't have taken it off him for that money - he must be a close friend or he won't be any more if he finds the true value. The cartridge certainly needs replacing with a good MM (Ortofon ,Goldring). If you are dissatisfied start with inexpensive mods such as mat and feet.

Got a new Cart an SAE 1000 Lt. And got feet sorted out, now thinking of a mat but haven't got a clue which one and has to be cheap,any ideas?

Either the funk achromat or the standard one. Do not be led on with an inspire acrimat, it's rubbish on the techy!

Dan if it works well everything is cheap. :lol: Try one of the Loricraft/Garrard cork nitrile mix two piece mats, Im in the edit suite at the 'mo and I just gave one a listen and it sounds pretty good, everything is presented as it should be, tight bass etc.
