Hi all, long time no ... type ... ?? :)

I dont listen to the Hifi much these days, what with having a 2 year old etc ... What I do listen to is low volume and in the evening. To this end I have decided it about time I make some changed to the set up. I'm going for a mac mini into a dac/pre setup that having demoed for a couple of days now suits my needs perfectly... and really is only a nats nob away from what i have been using for the last few years, especially at low volumes where the differences are seriously negligible!

So... The Valve pre and Majic DSi are going ...

The Majik DSi -

not the current generation, but the one prior ... the only difference between this and the dsm is the hdmi pass through I think.
I know linn gear isnt overly popular around these parts, but thought it worth putting it up for sale anyway ... to any of you folks I'm thinking £1200 shipped. They go for up to £1350 on ebay, so hopefully that represents a good deal! Its boxed, but im not convinced I know where the remote is ... It also has the mc pre option.

I can honestly say I never thought I would sell this... I really isn't an easy thing to do, but quite genuinely I feel that it is now wasted on me! I don't listen to the system like I used to at all, and whilst I love the thing I just feel someone else might get a lot more out of it than me!
It was made by Anthony for me after I bought one of his power amps some 4 years ago now ... the power amp went when I moved to active speakers, the pre stayed as it provided a significant improvement over the digital pre in the majik dsi.

Me and Anthony spent a good few phone calls chatting about the spec for this... Back in those days I was very much into this hifi lark and was very keen that Anthony didn't skrimp on parts! I seem to remember him telling me the remote controlled stepped attenuator alone was £400 odd worth...

I'm hoping Anthony will see this thread and add a bit of detail of his own, as beyond that I dont know much about the technical details ...

I,m looking for £1000 ono ... and for that, assuming its ok with Anthony, id like to get him to check it over and I will include his costs in the sale price! ie £1000 serviced!

The pre would go nicely with Steve's KT88 power amp and I know he's been considering selling it, a great combo!

I have thought long and hard about this Dave ... I just feel like I have moved on from the hobby a little, I realised I found it as stressful as much as I enjoyed it... That's why you don't see me round these parts any more really. The set up I have now may not be quite what I had with the valve pre in place, but say down listening to it last night at (for the first time in probably 6-12 months) I just didn't notice the difference. The speakers are, to my mind, the key to my set up. And the mac-dac source keeps things simple for the whole family ... Yes, I could put the pre away for some years to come, but to what end? Digging it out and still not appreciating it as much as someone else will! It need to be used and enjoyed ... Not locked away to potentially rot!

I have recently gone through a similar process with my cameras, I've sold a lot of them and bought a couple that I do actually use all the time ... Stuff that fits my life better as it is now!

So yeah, I appreciate the thought, but for me ... It wouldn't be right to keep it really!

I had a pretty good time with it (over a year I think) but then in the run-up to a house move made a few changes and ended up selling to Paul (TheBlackAdder) so it's still on AoS .... I do miss it though, it's a stonker of an amp.

I must admit if I'd known this pre was coming up I'd have held off on the Tram2 ... Anthony's work is pretty special.

Annoyingly the Tram2 is not even plug and play it needs a bit of work done to it so it's not even in use right now.:doh:

My life too means I have been a bit of a stranger around these parts, and the hifi only gets played so William can dance to "manna ma na" by the Muppets, or for Tamzin who is likely to ask for Tina Turner or Prefab Sprout... good music taste for a 5 year old! Good luck with the sales, and that's a lovely picture of Connie. :)

Btw, nice chatting to you the other night - always good fun :) Incidentally, Steve T's loss is most definitely the new buyer's gain!

IMO (and I suspect also backed up by Anthony), the preamp you have is still better, regardless of whatever Steve has done to improve his - if for no other reason than yours is housed inside a non-magnetic (much nicer looking) case, which as Steve is so 'tuned into' the negative sonic aspects of the 'ferrous effect', in relation to hi-fi, with the use of his acrylic stands, etc, I'm surprised he's not more concerned about...!

Anyway, that last bit was largely for your benefit, not that of anyone else ;)

Good luck with the sale, mate, although I suspect you won't need any!!

just surfaced from sun/mon listening sessions .been listening to my music in a brand new light,very involving it just invites you in with a silky smoothness but retaining excellent dynamics.otis taylor white african had train in room with me eva taylor at the pawnshop wow what a gal!this with trichord alecto monoblocks just a shame i havent got other power amps to try yet!think i like it!
