I'd been feeling that my system wasn't delivering the clarity I expected, I'd been running some "aerospace" cables with Neutrik Profi connectors that were a step up in terms of cohesion (You know the timing cues, like laying off or accelerating the beat, the stuff that gives life to music), from RG-142 wire with the same connectors.
I've just received some "super" Neptunes, they are made up with the Furutech FP126-R plugs. Paul at Reference Fidelity Components recommended these plugs over the standard FP126-G in the context of my system, in a high RFI environement. In fact, we discussed a number of options, including the full blown Venus, but some £600 for two sets of cables was too hard for me to swallow.
Anyway, I plugged in the cables, incidentally the old cables are at about the same price if not more expensive, and although my jaw is still in place, here are my impressions :
My first thought is that they are quieter than the previous cables, and because of this everything is in tighter focus, with greater depth of field (to err into photo territory).
I asked myself if I was delusional, Paul assured me I wan't. I even have the impression that system has more gain! Don't seem to have to turn it up so loud to hear the details I want to. It's not a huge difference of course, but I'd say I can back off between a half and a full hour on the volume control, compared with the previous cables.
Paul has been my "go to" cable guy now for about a year since I first heard what his cables could do, but this is the first time I have all through RFC Cables.
His customer service is first class, and will not over sell beyond your requirements and budget.
