We have a big dog but he is frightened of the bangs and flashes caused by fireworks, even when in the house(dog not firework), it's only the 2nd of Nov and we already had to endure 2 hours of panicky dog, should fireworks be banned totally orallowed just on the 5th at official events?

When the council run official do on the 5th takes place we load dog into the car and head out of town for 1/2ish an hour till the display is over so there is no problem with Archies nerves.

Our dog is fine with them. However, fireworks made available to any over-18 idiot who wants to buy them?
Nope! There's not much good about that.

Ban them. No way would you ever introduce putting explosives in the hands of chavs, so why tolerate it because of tradition? If people want to see fireworks, go to a display.

While I've got the grumpy hat on, ban Trick or Treat too. Bloody American shite anyway. What parent in their right mind would send their kids out begging and knocking on strangers doors. Rant over :)

If people walked about with explosives any other time of the year they would be liable to arrest . Yet for 5 or 6 days before and after 5th November it's OK  We also encourage every budding fire raiser to legally hone their skills and build absolutely massive bonfires then expect firemen to risk their lives to bring them under control . Ban them altogether I say.

Yep agree that Fireworks are a pain in the backside apart from when used at professional shows on and around the 5th November... Stop letting the spotty gits getting their grubby hands on them!

My dog loves the fireworks. Plenty of idiots letting off illegal, large explosions round here tonight and every time my pooch hears one he wants to go out in the garden to hear more. I think he must have been used to going out with somebody who did a bit of shooting before I took him on as a rescued dog.

Beyond question, the best fireworks ever....

We are in the same boat Martin. Our little Jack, Pepper, whilst ordinarily full of bravado has been reduced to a quivering wreck. She is trying to burrow under the cushions and is making the most pathetic whimpering noises which are really tugging at our heartstrings. We are both giving her loads of attention and cuddles but it really isn't helping. For the first time in my life I would support a complete ban on the sale of fireworks. Bella, our Shar Pei, seems totally unconcerned on the other hand.

I think that they are too readily available nowadays... If society can't be trusted then it's time to ban them apart from professional shows.

I remember a few of my mates at school being badly injured by fireworks, one guy blinded in one eye.

I was blinded in one eye playing badminton. A shuttlecock injury is one of the most common causes off serious eye injury from sport

I'm a tad concerned where you are sourcing these pickkies :rfl:

Dump em

However.
Once upon a time we were going down the E4, Belgium I think, as you do, when we saw some spectacular lights in the sky.
I carefully pulled over to the hard shoulder to watch, stunned by the show, as did many, many others, some braking almost dead stop in the middle lane.
Went on for probably an hour and was fabulous

but

no noise

You don't need the noise to have a fireworks display

Well they're at it again tonight round my way.

It's very loud all around and non-stop, no restraint or consideration at all, mind you Southall is 'Scumbag City', so you really can't expect anything else! The local roads are being used as illegal firework party sites. They're even firing air bombs and rockets up and down the street. The dog likes it though, he keeps asking to go out in the garden and gets really excited when a rocket or big bang goes off nearby. I expect we'll have to put up the infernal racket until about 3am.

It's just started raining, hope they all get soaked.

'Tis blissfully quiet here, thank fook! :)

If things get too noisy, I'll simply open the door to the fuckers and put on my 'angry look'....

They're still at it, with a vengance!

There's a real risk of getting hit by spent firework debris raining down as there's a huge amount of stuff being let off now and firework fragments everywhere. Some of those big spent rockets coming down could do a serious mischief to somebody! What a racket. Seems the rain hasn't slowed them down at all.

The 120db limit on firework noise doesn't seem to apply here.

Marco

That's life in London for you, mate! It's as silent as a graveyard here. Turn a bloody high-pressure water hose on the fuckers... That'll 'dampen' their fun a little!!! :eyebrows:

With the cacophony still going on here you wouldn't even notice that thing being used!

I'd swear some of the bangs are military grade ordnance. :eyebrows:

Gone midnight and the 'loonies' are still at it. Down to about a dozen loudish reports every few seconds. An hour ago it was like being surrounded by sustained machine gun fire!

At least my dog's enjoying it, he's still begging to go outside every few minutes. He's a strange dog.
