No, it wasn't a test for audio components, it was a Coke vs. Pepsi blind test. Ashamed to say, couldn't taste much of a difference.
Does that mean that this Coke & Pepsi thing is just a marketing ploy?

I'm sure I remember reading Pepsi is slightly sweeter which gives it the edge in sip tests but generally people cant identify once blindfolded... I prefer Coke myself :D
I am convinced coke is better. I am sure I could tell the difference in a blind test. I will not take a blind test.

Coke comes in several flavours. You got plastic bottle, glass bottle, can, and from the tap. Each has a different taste.
I prefer the glass bottle Coke.

In the '70s and early '80s I used to work in a factory that had it in a vending machine - but not in a bottle or can. It used to come in as a concentrate and was mixed with carbonated water in a cup. It tasted LUSH! - and much better than anything that came in a bottle or can.
There is a subtle hint of Ginger to the taste of Pepsi so I'm almost certain I could identify it in a blind tasting. They can keep the Coke, 'orrible metallic tasting stuff that it is, regardless of the packaging it is served up in... :spew:

The big 2 litre plastic bottle Coke tastes the worst. I like the can much better.

Totally agree. Cold canned Coke is the best Coke.
That said the magic vanishes when you put it in a glass and at that point it could be from any vessel, assuming they're the same temp (but not 'postmix' - the soda syphon things in bars, ick!)

And I also heard a thing on the radio a while ago about packaging and perception where someone had done tests with crisps in a variety of packaging and there's a direct correlation between the 'crinkleiness' of the packaging and how crunchy the participants thought the crisps were, which why crisps come in crinkly packaging rather than soft film packaging!

Yes, that's the best widely available modern option. However, the REAL way to taste Coke is from a glass bottle! I have very fond memories from the 70s of how this stuff tasted:

Cans, in comparison, impart a rather metallic taste on Coke. Ever tasted wine inside cans? :spew: Or how about milk, out of a bottle with a foil top, compared with the stuff contained in cartons? There is no comparison. Even beer tastes better inside bottles. For the ultimate taste quality of any beverage, it's glass bottles all the way!
Why are soft drinks rarely sold inside glass bottles these days? Quite simply, because they cost more to produce and are also much heavier to to transport (and they can break). Cans and plastic bottles are much cheaper to make and transport, so that's why they are used. It's unfortunately another example of how modern life frequently trades quality for cost and/or convenience. Don't get me started on screw-tops on wine bottles...! :rolleyes:
In terms of Coke, you can still find it today inside small glass bottles similar to this (usually found with other 'mixer drinks' in the fridges of bars and restaurants):

P.S Alex, my friend, your tastebuds are shot. Pepsi is much sweeter than Coke, so the difference should be bloody obvious...!!

You can buy them from Costco. A carton of 24 normaly lasts me about a month. Cost is about 50p a bottle.
Yeah, Costco (being wholesalers) will no doubt be where some of the pubs are supplied from. If you're buying the stuff in bottles, you obviously appreciate the difference! :)

I agree, Neil. The stuff abroad always seems to taste better (perhaps it's made to a slightly different recipe?) I can tell you that both Fanta and Orangina taste much more 'orangy' in both Italy and France respectively (the latter in France has big chunks of orange flesh in it)!
Also, the Coke that used to be inside those 1970s glass bottles, in the UK, seemed to taste much better than the stuff now in cans....

Lol... I have no strong views on the companies that make them (why do you hate them?) For me, on a boiling hot summer's day, nothing quite hits the spot like sitting in the shade of the summer house, sipping an ICE COLD Coke...
A can is fine, but I like mine served in a large (proper) Coca-Cola glass, filled with ice and some slices of fresh lemon or lime - yummy!!

Leave all those carbonated, caramalised, tooth rotting, sugar drinks for their only useful purpose: as a metal cleaner - which is what the Italians did in the '50s! It was a relatively cheap way of cleaning the chrome trim of their cars during that time.

Thing is, I enjoy the odd fizzy drink (I reckon that I probably drink no more than about 6 cans of Coke a year), as for me, sometimes nothing else hits the spot - especially as I can go through periods of time where I can take or leave alcohol, and often leave it for weeks on end! ;)
In Italy too, young people sitting in bars or cafes will be seen drinking Coke or Fanta much more than beer or wine - indeed the latter is virtually unheard of. They consider it deeply 'uncool' (as they'd have been brought up with their parents and grandparents drinking gallons of the stuff, and so are usually sick of it), therefore aside from soft drinks and sparkling mineral water, the beverage of choice is often an espresso! :)
Generally, we're far too obsessed with alcohol here in the UK. There are far more important things in life.

Dangerous and wrong guidance on molotov cocktail. The rag should be tied around the neck and the bottle should be stopped so it doesn't piss fire down your arm when you throw it.
