Speaker cable from the speaker maker a good idea?

I'm using ProAcs at the moment and sometimes come across speaker cable from the same company, now without starting a cable arguement/discussion:lol: I'm wondering if it might be worth giving some a go, occassionally seen 2m/3m pairs at about £100, opinions please.

I've had the same speaker cable in use for nearly 20 years, and I don't have any urge to change it.
I think you'd be better off spending your money on CDs or LPs, whatever floats your boat.

ProAc cable used to be generic 79 strand with their name printed on it.

I might be misremembering, but I'm sure Proac haven't always made their own speaker cable. I seem to recall they used to recommend a certain one and I'm sure it was Ortofon. Am I getting mixed up?

I'd be curious to hear what you make of Proac's own cable because I always seemed to be trying to get the best out of the Proacs I've had. Speaker cable seemed to make a big difference but I never really managed to get to that "Goldilocks" zone with them although I really felt it was there to be found.

Back when I had my PMC's I called them for cable recommendation, I recall them saying they didn't believe the hype about fancy speaker cables, just use generic 79 strand stuff.
Or did I imagine that? :scratch:

Funnily enough I was just looking at their site the other day (trying to determine if I should get the tweeters in my TB1s updated) and came across this:

What speaker cable should I use?

PMC recommend using a high quality thick multi-strand Oxygen Free Copper (OFC) cable between the amplifier and speakers. The use of ‘exotic” cables has limited improvement on sound quality, so we would not advocate spending great quantities of money. However, if you are prepared to spend a great deal of money in this area, we would strongly advice you listen first to determine whether the outlay is worth the improvement.
