Has anyone heard Jpw ap3's are they good? Depth,midrange, detail and bass

They are highly sought after Dan and don't come up for sale too often. There is certainly some love for them here on AoS. Not heard a pair myself mind ;)

I've had three pairs over the years. Pretty good overall. Think of a poor man's Snell and you won't go far wrong. Lack a bit of bite in comparison and don't start and stop as quickly, but they are great value. Bass isn't going to shake the floor, but it's not overblown and it has decent timing. They image pretty well (I found they like a bit of space behind them) but again, not as precise as a Snell.

I've re-wired JPWs internally and found real gains. I'm not clever enough to up-rate the crossover but I suspect there's a really great speaker waiting to get out.

I did find them enjoyable and can't think of much else that is as good at the price.

Yes definite snell look a likes so upgraded crossover could make these pretty special?

I had a pair of AP3's along with AP2's, never got the bass quite right in my room due to positioning constraints and subsequently sold them :( Cracking speakers though...

1.Watch out for knackered surrounds on the bass drivers. Even if they have been refoamed quite often the new foams arent exactly the same size as the originals and the result is restricted cone movement and no bass whatsoever.

2. As standard the capacitor in the tweeter crossover is very poor quality and really does those budget tweeters no favours ! Replace with something decent for a huge improvement in every area.

3. IME They work best on heavy open frame stands [spikes top & bottom] 10"-15" from the back wall with quite a lot of toe in [the tweeters can sound a bit course off axis.]

4. They arent the most difficult speakers to drive but I wouldnt use them with an amp less than 30wpc... They do like some watts up 'em.
