Chord Electronics DAC users - don't upgrade Mac OS to Mavericks just yet

Just a warning to users of Chord Electronics DAC's such as the Qute HD - the USB driver supplied by Chord will not work if you upgrade to the latest Mavericks OS. There is a notice on Chord's website http://www.chordelectronics.co.uk/news-info.asp?id=143. I made the mistake of updating both my MacBooks and now am stuck and can't use the Qute. It is quite a painful process to revert to the old operation system on which I am just embarking. I spoke to Chord this morning and they are working on this - and mentioned that they knew of about 25 other manufacturers who were having problems with software etc after the Mavericks update.

don’t you use Time Machine backups? It’s a simple and straightforward procedure to restore an older version of the operating system. PM me if you need help or more details.

I'm pretty well agnostic about the Microsoft/Apple thing - if Apple floats your boat then fine, just don't brag about it being superior, coz it ain't.

Well, the MacBook I use for playing through the USB of the Chord DAC had nothing on it but the operating system and some programs for digital music such as Audirvana, Audacity, Soundflower etc - all my digital music files and other important files are on an external NAS, so I'd never bothered doing a Time Machine back up of the MacBook itself. I'm currently erasing my hard drive and hunting for the original Snow Leopard installation discs. Oh well, you live and learn. And I'm completely phlegmatic on the Windows vs Apple debate - I have Windows running on a Parallels VM on my main MAC for when it is needed.

That's a Godsend!
It's a pain in the backside having to reinstall operating systems, but at least all the valuable stuff is safe and unaffected.

Its the stupidity from both sides that gets on my tits. Lots of things that are 'just good fun' are nothing of the kind. Its time we all started having a laugh about other choices too. What car do you drive?? What washing machine do you use?

I wish that a certain signature on this forum that mocks the PC brigade would be removed because it just invites this sort of shit.

Anyway, cross out any of the following that don't apply. I'm not prejudiced, I have friends who....are gay/moslem/use a PC etc etc. All good fun until it isn't. I can hear the 'PC' comments now:lol:

Nah, you haven't cause offence in any way. I liken it all the vitriol between the objective and subjective camps. All so unnecessary. The human condition I guess.
