Volume Control in the Digital Domain

Hi All,
I currently have my Sonos Connect connected to my Temple Audio Amp via analogue out. I pre-set the volume on the amp, then control my listening levels using the Sonos contoller. Now, if I add a DAC (BM MK2) connected to the digital out on my Sonos my intuition tells me that I will have to use the volume control on the amp in future. However, after a little research it appears that this may not be the case. Could you experts out there put me right?

You could do that either way as it would work with the volume on the sonos or the amp.

I found that the Sonos sounds best when set to fixed volume in the set up menus and then adjusting the volume on the amp.

Only way to be sure is try both ways and see which sounds best to you.

(make sure the amplifier volume is turned down before you change the sonos volume to fixed as it will be full volume from the Sonos when you press play :) )

Its good to know that I still have both options for volume control as the DAC and the Amp are likely to be tucked out of the way.

you are almost always better off adjusting it in the analogue domain imho

that said in my office and kitchen systems I tend to opt for practicality (i.e what remote do I have) rather than ultimate quality

Hopefully the DAC will arrive tomorrow and I can try both options. To be honest, sliding a finger across the Sonos controller app is not the most satisfying way of changing the volume.Temple Audio went to a lot of effort to specify a nice pot on the Bantam Gold so it would be a shame not to use it. Very nearly bought the Bantam without the volume pot, that would have been a mistake:doh:
