Hello all,

My user name is pretty self explanatory. Zats ow we speaks down yerr and me name is Ben.

Me: had a hifi as a teenager: Back then it was all tweaking my beloved pushbike and playing records. circa 1975 I saved up and bought a Sony TA88, the upright one with slidey controls with a matching tuner I always wanted but never got. See them sometimes on ebay and wonder whether I should, but don't. Wharfedale speakers, oh and a cassette deck I loved, with meters and a chunky glass bit held on with funky knurled knobs that came off so you could access the heads with a cotton but and special cleaner, which I did with without fail. Aiwa maybe. I did love it. Pretty typical stuff for someone starting out at the time. I did upgrade later but to bland silver fronted stuff with tons of buttons and a sound so indifferent I can remember nothing about it.

Then came parenthood, selling my vinyl, Thomas the tank, CDs, MP3s moving house etc and it all went eventually.

Recently my now grown up sons bought me a sony turntable. Lovely thought even though it's a pretty indifferent one: probably originally sold as a complete system but it's re-awakened the pleasure of sitting down and listening to music rather than have it as background. And vinyl does have something special about it. I will definitely be looking out for something with more class to it.

Listening mostly to classical now. it's my age! I like a nice tune: schubert piano, Tchaikovsky, Copeland, Sibelius, Prokofiev. Favourite record of the month, "Carroll Gibbons and his BOYFRIENDS".(that's exactly how it's written on the sleave) Not heard of them? NO? The go-to in-house ensemble for the Savoy Hotel Restaurant in the 1930s and 40s? 50p from the Amnesty charity shop. 10 inches of shellac bliss. Stop sniggering you in the back.

Anyway, I'm joining the art of sound as a complete ignoramus when it comes to the technical side and who made what and what it sounded like but I am an enthusiast. Take pleasure in nicely made machinery as well as the music.

My first post after this will concern a Tandberg amplifier I've been given.

Bye for now

HI Ben. Nice intro. Ahhh yes, I remember my first steps towards audionervosa in the 70's. Fond memories.
