View Full Version : Amp advice for Edingdale speakers?

Hi Guys

Looks like I'm moving on my NAF 845 SET and was wondering if anyone has any advice for a valve amp for a match made in heaven with Colin Topps Edingdale speakers??? Looking to go second hand if possible...

Colin uses 300B SET Monoblocs, if that's any help.
I think he said the design is one of Nick's (Lurcher).

I'm not Drew, but I wouldn't describe the Edingdales as small.
It's all relative though - you might think they're quite dinky :)

They work very well with 300b's. PP el84 would also be a nice match for them. 2a3 maybe, but maybe a bit more power needed. Something like a triode wired KT120 would work well also. One of the reasons those speakers exist was to make a nice easy load for a amp. Depends what you had in mind.

The amps Colin uses with them are 5687 driven 300b, interstage coupled, with a solid state regulated driver stage and a 6080 + ecc83 regulated output stage. Transformers by AE, amorphous outputs. They wouldn't fit in your budget, but something similar might.

Maybe something like this 300b using SP Wound iron.

Interesting photo and info Nick...I have been leaning towards a 300B amp or monos but coming from a 845s am wondering what advantages/ disadvantages I might find. Any particular 300b models I should be considering? Thanks very much

Is Colin still making the 'Dales?
I'd heard there was an issue with driver supply or something?

Its maybe time to upgrade the RS3's to something a bit better, heard Colins speakers at Owsten and knew they were the next step.

Don't have a lot of details on them, so thought I'd ask when I saw this thread.
