FS - Sonus Blue-Gold Moving iron High Compliance Cartridge

Rare and superb! Legendary Sonus Blue-Gold moving iron cartridge...body only as I trashed the stylus a while back accidentally. Sounded better than the V15 III...IS better than the V15 III! More dynamic, greater bass authority and more HF extension and detail. Lovely cartridge supplied in original box.....just 5 years old, bought as New Old Stock... £30 plus P&P.

I know that they were available a few years ago but I've not tried since...there's probably some NOS stock available but you'd have to look around. It's really intended for a low mass arm like the SME3009 although it will work on medium mass arms...compliance was originally 50, but with age, the NOS rubber suspension hardens slightly and true compliance is somewhat lower. Seemed to work fine on a Rega arm and on my 3009.

I think that these continued to be 'induced magnet' types, as the previous Sonus Blue was, along with their ancestors by ADC.

Styli were on ebay not long ago (also here? - http://www.hifikit.se/varumarken/sonus/pickuper )and the bass and midband was very good. Watch the massive hf peak at 22kHz or so, which can overload some phono stages. Get a match that tolerates this, and the sound should be excellent :)

Sorry to appear blunt but I wasn't asking for opinions, it's a classified advert (clue's in the title) and I stand absolutely by what I've said...I've used both and I preferred the Sonus...much more lively/dynamic.

As you lot know, I admire both the V15 III (not as much the IV on rock music) for it's basic honesty and love my Sonus Blue (in the right arm) for it's wonderful sense of atmosphere; something also shared with the better ADC's of the period (XLM/VLM III, ZLM etc.). Quality control was a bit of an issue, but a good Blue is a SERIOUSLY good cartridge, a bit like a Decca I suppose :)

Apologies for offering opinions here, but I just wanted to try to present a balanced view - I own a V15 II, III's, a IV and a VMR with broken cantilever (GRRR!) as well as ADC 25, XLM in all versions up to Phase IV, ZLM and a treasured Sonus Blue, finding the often 'difficult' profiled styli on the ZLM and Blue not an issue at all these days! They just need a lowish mass tonearm and possibly a tad of damping to make 'em go best..

I agree David. I may well keep the Blue Gold if no one wants to snap this one up. The line contact stylus for these is a seriously good performer. I always equated the Blue-Gold as the equivalent to the V15 VMR
