...when you change stuff.

As our upstairs lounge isn't ready yet, I don't want to leave equipment up there to get too cold in an unheated room this winter. So I had a quick rearrange in the present music room. The Quads and OTL are resting and the Leak and the latest bitsas are in their place pro tem.

The room has a suspended wooden floor and all of the equipment is directly coupled to its supports. The 12" units go a lot further down than the Quads, rather fun and very enjoyable in their own way. However, I thought I'd turn it up a bit and blow me down...........H U G E feedback with the TT going. That Oldpinkman is going to laugh at me after my quips about suspended decks:(

CD is fine and provided I keep the volume with reasonable bounds the TT is OK too but I may have to investigate the possibility of fitting some sorbothane feet to the TT for the winter!!

Rats. That'll teach me to make another change, even if temporary.

B&W!! Nah... Steadman specials. 'orrrrrrrrible white van man "studio monitors'. I threw the crap mid and tweeter away but the 12" is actually quite good so added a Celestion HF1300 with T27 as supertweeter. Covered the vinyl wrap in the cheapest sapele veneer I had in stock and stained it sort of rosewood, quick oil and wax and they look surprisingly good. The biggest surprise is how good they sound. If the Quads ever decide to depart this mortal coil (is this an in hi-fi joke?) I think I could actually live with them.

As its you:), I have to say that they sound a bit flat with the Musical Fidelity but sing with the Leak Stereo 20!!

I'm not surprised you get feedback. Even on a concrete floor, with the speakers that close to the TT, you are bound to have feedback.

Whaddaya mean as it's me!? I own a Stereo 20.... and worked for MF! :eyebrows:

Interesting. Why is is that MF have the reputation for being unreliable?? Were they specified a bit near the knuckle?? I have the A100 which normally drives KEF101s. Sounds great still and runs at near max output for ages when we want to listen at 'realistic' (or at as near to realistic as the little KEFs can manage:lol:) levels. Build quality is a bit laughable though, the control knobs flap up and down about 1cm, not exactly Japanese levels of precision.

Totally agree. I got sick of trying to get them to improve the quality and basically couldn't sleep at night about it (I take it seriously :doh: ) so I resigned on those grounds.....
