View Full Version : How irritating!

I have got a tingling sound coming out of the right hand speaker at quite a volume, as if it has interference of some description.

My amps have always be susceptible to background interference but this is really quite loud and annoying.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've tried switching the amps on and off and switching my router on and off as the sound coincided with the lights flashing on the router but this doesn't appear to have helped... It's certainly something I need to resolve because at lower volumes it really disturbs the music :(

Is it only when using digital music or with your TT as well ?

Hi Al,

Only when playing digital but also when just sitting there without playing anything :(

It's not as bad today :)

Do you have anything plugged into a point near that speaker ? ie; computer, laptop charger etc...

Hi Anthony,

I've not connected anything different than normal unfortunately :(

Would the sound cause any damage to the tweeters?

Im not sure what a 'tingling sound' sounds like ? Tingling I suppose ! :hmm:

Does the noise move to the left speaker if you swap your phono/speaker cables over right into left/left into right ?

Do you mean tinkling?

Have you tried a different input on your preamp?
Does the noise go away?

Have you tried switching your speakers around at the back of the amp?
Did the noise change sides? If not then you might have an amplifier issue.
If the fault does move then you might have a speaker problem, possibly a blown or rubbing tweeter.

Just spotted that you're biamping - scrub the bit about swapping over the speaker connections, or at least leave that until later in a fault chasing procedure.
Try swapping the interconnect cables around first.
It's far easier to swap left with right that way.

I'm pleased to hear that your "tingling" has disappeared for now :eyebrows:
I hope it stays that way.
