Lateral thinking on CD storage - literally

I used to house mine in some really stylish charcoal metal towers which I thought were very stylish, but alas, 'er indoors didn't.

As for the link, there's no way on earth mine would allow a monstrosity like that in the house, mind you, neither would I come to that, :eyebrows:

I use the Ikea CD storage as in the link pic, but as Craig said that is just a monstrosity. Being handy with tools, mine are used horizontally, but cut to fit, and joined so they fit the whole wall with other types of shelves, all in white. I have to say they look great. Most storage/ racks etc i make myself, or adapt from ready made.

I have a black one in the corner. Black to match most of my kit

I need at least 14 to store all my CDs so this one only holds the current, spares and super favourites

I usually go for black but a load of them could be overpowering so all white might be the way to go

I have a friend who has a similar but even more intrusive looking stand which houses his entire Hifi system and includes his increasing CD and Vinyl collections...

Personally I have a 'understairs' cupboard which comes off of our lounge which is my own special 'Man Cave' :)

I will try and take some snaps Mike, but im not at home right now, and after the nightmare of the last time loading pics it may take some time.
The thing i found is to mix the CD shelves up with other shelves. I have never liked the look of a wall of CDs, just to much on the eye etc. I use the ikea floating shelves ( same colour), to mix with the CD storage. the floating shelves are thick, but only solid at the ends and where the wall holding rods are used, the rest is that lattice hard cardboard, i have fitted on the underside of these shelves some kitchen kickboard lights. There is enough space for the cables at the back due to the lip, so no cables can be seen.
I am over 6', but i still i need a chair to access the top row. I tend to move the CDs about now and again, as it the top row seldom get a look in.

My Mana racks, loaded with a fair bit of kit are prominent.
Most CDs are upstairs in my 'office'
LPs are in Ladderax record cabinets in the music room.

Yes, a bank of CD racks could look overpowering
I prefer closed cabinets to keep dust and sun off the LPs and probably CDs too

No Mike, nothing like those shelves, the ikea ones do not have any visible means of support. They come in different lengths too.

99% of my CDs are in large economy, mushroom boxes (work very well)

I made the stupid mistake of putting all my CDs in Case Logic cases 10 or so years ago and threw out a lot of the original jewel cases...BIG mistake!!! Now, although i know it looks a mess, at least i can get to the CD i want to hear and it's not scratched to buggery.
I should add that i use a strict alphabetical system except where I don't and move into a more genre based system :-)

This is helping my thought processes nicely.
I think I prefer the look of furniture to rows of CDs or LPs, certainly for the bulk
If Ladderax was still around they would do CD racks or cupboards. I have 90% of my LPs in closed door Ladderax record cabinets and like the look of dark wood. Helps with dusting too. We have terrible dust since the house was refurbed, even after 3 years
To give you a laugh my CDs are in the order I bought them in, all 2000 odd
