Hi all. I'm from Southampton but now living in Tasmania. i'm getting back into hifi after a long stint away (student). Have amp (quasimodo mini (http://www.adelaidespeakers.com/amplifiers.html)) and source (mac air to micromega mydac), but lacking quality speakers. am looking for a small 2-way that can be kept out of reach of little (boys) hands!

What sort of music do you like to listen to then mate?

Lots of (captive) Devils but no Tiger yet! But then I don't think a Tiger would get passed my red healer! :-)

Thanks GW (nice initials by the way!). I like all sorts. My taste in music has been heavily influenced by my dad's collection. Growing up, Bob Dylan, Talking Heads, The Band, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabrielle, Kate Bush, Dire Straights were played a lot, and later Ry Cooder, Charlie Haden, Evelyn Glennie, Joanna MacGregor, John Taverner, Katie Labeque, Keith Jarrett, Jool's Annual Hootenanny...

I tend to listen at lower volume due to others in the house.

I've done a fair amount of research into small speakers, but have listened to only a few (there are not many hifi stores in Tassie). I've had 47 labs lens and listened to Dynaudio excite X12. The 47 labs lens lacked mid-low end range so I sold them. The X12 were good, but... I'd like to hear some proac, PMC and harbeth. I need something small that can be wall mounted until the kids (2 and 4) age a few years.

How are your woodworking skills?

A smallish full range single driver speaker would seem a good match for your amp.

Hi Ali, my woodworking skills are an unknown (no tools, lack of time). But I have been considering Blumenstein Orcas (http://blumensteinaudio.com/shop/orcas)with the possibility of adding sub later on. Have you heard the Orcas?
