Operation,get my system back!

After spending a ski season in france and having to sell my Croft Micro 25 and most of my modded Technics,so i could eat :lol: I am now on the path back to what i previously had :D

First thing back is a Croft Micro 25 Basic.This was the first valve pre i tried a few years ago and only had in my system for a few weeks before moving on to the Micro 25!

I had different speakers back then (Tapco S8's) and was a bit of an experiment with valve pre's and active speakers.The combo work really well to my ears,but the Tapco's lacked overall refinement,which my current speakers,Paradigm Reference Active/20's do have!

So i'm looking forward to having a croft back and seeing how it will sound with the paradigms!!

I should be recieving it tomorrow or saturday,i can't wait! :D

I now have the croft plumbed in and it's just how i remember it! Works very well with the Paradigms! Great pre for the price.

Just need to now turn my attention towards the Technics,so i can see how the phono stage fairs.I only had the line stage version when i last had one!

Yeah,i'm in no major rush to be honest to get the Micro 25.I'd rather concentrate on my tt now,as i haven't span any vinyl for nearly a year now!

So today i have re-installed the stock psu to the Technics and have now just sourced a stock tonearm from Tony (Twotone).So will be able to listen to some vinyl finally very soon :D

Next year,i will start the upgrade path again and hopefully will not need to sell everything to fund snowboard seasons!! Although i know it can all be got back again anyway!! Well apart from my speakers,i will NEVER sell them,even to pay for food!! :lol:

Bit of an update.I have got a Jelco 750D back on my Technics! Great to have this arm back and nice to have some refinement back in the loop.

Next step later in the year will be the power supply.Not sure which way to go re: this! I've got plenty of time to look at all the options!

I bought a Paul Hynes regulator module and built my own. Works very well and I save a few quid. I can even upgrade it to output 27 volts so I can install one of his onboard regulators at a later date. :)

My own cheap take on it would be to get the existing transformer out of the deck and in a sturdy abs box away from the deck.

Not sure if i have the skills to build something myself.Unless i had clear instructions on how to go about it,i would be dubious about trying by myself! I do want value for money,so maybe should be something to look into.

With typical fixed-coil cartridges, I doubt there's a need in all honesty, but some MC types may/do require this, but then the arm isn't totally happy with lower compliance cartridges and then off we go on the mega-buck upgrade merry-go-round which ends up rather silly IMO. It's a good stock deck, but just use it sans lid and maybe with 'added' cheapo cork mat - IMO.

Well the title of the tread is operation get my system back and is not a stock deck atm! ;) I have a Jelco arm,Achromat and sorbothane feet.I used to have a timestep psu and a Mike New bearing.The Bearing is a given as far as i'm concerned,in regards to getting back to what i had.I don't feel the Timestep is value for money though for what it is! Never used it with a lid,regardless if it's been modded or not.Not looking to spend mega-bucks,just sensible good value for money! Which i feel i have done with the rest of my system and is what this forum should be about imo!

I also have a second Technics (which is stock) with the same Shure SC35C cart,so doing comparisons in the same system and not fooling myself is easily achieved! ;)

And why exactly was the MN bearing designed? To go with the now unfashionable heavy platter he made.............

I'll shut up now, but please think it through, as Technics weren't total idiots and the stock bearing is fine for the stock platter IMO, especially if careful choice of oil is considered.

Well not exactly Dave.The bearing came before the platter if my memory serves me correctly. And it made a big difference over the stock bearing in conjunction with the stock platter! It wasn't desigend specifically to go with the heavy platter,but to replace the,whilst perfectly usuable,stock bearing,which coming from experience of using both in my system,is vastly inferior!!

I appreciate your concerns,but i have already been down this path,so it's not un-charted terrority for me.

Have you actually heard the MNB against the stock?
