Hello all,
My name's Drew and I'm a, ahem, 'older geezer' :eyebrows:. I've been somewhat interesting in hi-fi ever since my parents bought a Ferguson "stereophonic radiogramme" back in 1965-ish (with valve amplifier). Suddenly my Hollies, Byrds, Beatles, Stones, etc records sounded so much better! At least, it did, until I blew it up, by wiring my electric guitar into it! I have never been very well-off, so I have tended to experiment a lot with getting a reasonable sound, often using 2nd-hand gear that wasn't designed to go together. That mindset has stayed with me to this day, and now I am experiemting with getting a good sound out of my flatscreen TV which also serves as my mp3 player. I've connected a pair of active PC speakers to the headphone output of the TV. I have soldered parallel wires coming from each speaker going to fairly decent pair of Goodmans hi-fi speakers. The biggest speaker driver in this setup is only 5.5", so I'm thinking about adding a subwoofer. I'm not out to annoy the neighbours. I live out of earshot from them, and I don't go in for loud volumes anyway; just good reproduction, free from unwanted resonances. That's probably what my first post will be about after this one. Looking forward to talking to some of you here...
