was sure i was watching a Hummingbird till i was corrected by my Bro in-law, :rolleyes: them insects really 'go large' in France.

Arachnophobia, I have it too to a certain extent. Don’t worry! Get a can of insecticide and carry it with you all the time. Beware! There are spiders in our own home as well as I took those pictures in my back garden.

I seldom see dragonflies in my garden as I don't live near any ponds, lakes or rivers. Dragonflies move fast so it is very difficult or near impossible to take any flight shots of them. In the first three photos, I think they are not dragonflies but, In fact, damselflies.

Shows what a good lens can do. Kings pics are the dogs danglies lets face it, but mine were taken with a pretty bog standard camera but with a good lens.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10, getting on a bit now but has a Leica lens.
Note the newer Lumix don't have Leica lenses any more.

what amazes me is you seem to shoot wide open and yet the edge details on some are crisp and no corner falloffs,
i still can't believe you're getting such good results with an entry level A300,
have you ever thought off landscape photography?, we could be seeing another Ansel Adams in the making.

Yes, get what you're saying about Ansel's special qualities, on top of what you've mentioned,with good landscape,
you need to visualise the shot and capture the moment, even wait or go back another time to capture the shot in the right conditions,
there may be others but i can't think just now, just came of a late shift.

On your landscapes, #1 and #7 fell short a wee bit, funny how colour seemed to lessen the shots impact,
all others are great with the beach shot being best, it has a timeless feel to it with the ebb and flow of the shimmering wave
and peoples silhouette dotted along to infinity, seems you have travelled a bit too with shots from the Orient. :)

I do travel a lot and have been to many places, including different parts of China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Morocco, USA ……. Canada. :D

I have seen so much that my mind has been widening with open eyes and I think things very different than before. :)

I would strongly recommend MPB Photographic in Brighton for second hand. Bought and sold quite a lot of kit from them over 5 or 6 years. Found them to be impeccable in every way.
Flogged the whole SLR lot to them in early 2013 (sick of carrying it around) and acquired a Leica M9, which is a whole load of fun.

Sorry, no idea, but email them and they always respond quickly. They may not price all items.

The process is that, if you want to sell, you pack it, they email courier documentation and send a courier at a time of your choosing, check the gear on receipt, advise of any condition issues or price changes, and send you the money. They return items at no charge if you change your mind if there are issues.

Their prices are pretty much fixed in my experience, as they trade a huge amount. I don't recall that you get better prices on part exchange compared to selling only.

I would keep any Billingham bag, they last a lifetime. The canvas is indestructible and I understand the leather is Louis Vuitton offcuts.

It's a fairly mediocre Panasonic, but one when they fitted Leica lenses.

It's a DMC-FS3, quite a few years old now. I think the bright sunlight helped with the quality of the shots.

Nice shots Alan. I had one of those Panasonic lumix laika cameras way back.. Must have been 8 years ago as i bought it to take pics of my newborn grandson, and didnt have a camera on me..i fancied one of them anyway and was a good excuse. The one i got had a metal body and took great pictures too. Think my daughter may have it now.

Good little cameras those. Yeah, a bit of sun seems to work wonders on picture quality.

I've had three of the DMC series pocket compacts. I've got a DMC-LF1 at the moment. I like the electronic viewfinder.

I took the fly picture with an ancient Olympus SP-550UZ. Was 7.1 mp, but I cropped it so resolution is less.
