View Full Version : Ariston RD40 Turntable Question
Hello everyone
Just picked up this Ariston RD40 Turntable and wondered if anyone could answer a question for me regarding the record clamp, I am not sure how it works, it has a black metal disc the same size as the record label and i want to know if it is to be used sitting under the record or on top of the record? I have put a few pics up for you to look at and see if it makes any sense.
Thanks

Thats inturesting because i did not have a black disc with one i used to have, just the screw on bit, my screw on bit was not black either it was a chome type finish! If it does belong i wouldnt think it goes under the record as the record label needs to fit in the recess..
My guess would be that it sits on top of the record otherwise the label area of the record, which sits slightly proud of the playing surface, would raise the entire record above the mat very slightly which would leave the playing surface with less support.
Thanks Guys
I see what you mean buy the gap in between the record and the mat, also if the disc is placed on top of the record i guess it would protect the label from being marked when screwing down the smaller black clamp? I have noticed in some pictures that some seem to have the black clamp and some others chrome ones, any ideas where i could get a chrome one from be it aftermarket or original?
Thanks for your input !!

im wondering if a Townshend clamp would fit!
Hi , it goes under the record to fill the void in the mat and to stop excess pressure being applied to the centre of the record which can cause the record to dish ,if you use it above you risk it ripping off your stylus.
have fun nice deck
