Hi guys,

My stepdaughter has decided she just has to have an iPhone and will not be persuaded otherwise (silly moo). She has found an iPhone 3GS on ebay within her budget (£72.50 free P&P). Now, I don't know whether this is accurate or not but I have heard that Apple no longer support some of their older phones, is this true? Are there any other pitfalls to be aware of when buying a 3GS? Will she be able to sync to her current music library which resides on her old Android phone? Will she be able to play this music in iTunes (heaven forbid)? Sorry guys but I have no interest in Apple products at all so I am not technically au fait with them... Any other advice would be much appreciated... ;)

may be helpful or may be not ;)

it will do the basics

i.e music, web, email, vids, phone, picture messaging, camera, txt

it won't run the latest IOS version, it won't have siri (voice services) it won't do facetime

depends if she wants a decent smartphone (it is) or the latest features (its not)

Thanks for the advice guys ;)

I have managed to talk her out of buying the 3GS (thank God) and she has now settled on a reconditioned and unlocked 4S for £159.99 with free P&P. It's still an iPhone () but at least it is one of the more up to date models. This 4S has had IOS6 installed on it, whatever that is...

IOS is the firmware that controls it Dave

the newer the more features and bugs it has :-)

suggest she doesn't immediately upgrade to IOS 7 which is now out as it really is full of bugs and will need a few months to get patched yet

When I started to download iOS7 to my iPhone 4, it started by saying "20 minutes remaining". When my colleague did his, it started by saying "57 lifetimes remaining"

Actually took about half an hour in both cases.

Yeah Apple are about as good as Microsoft at judging the amount of time it takes to download things!

Personally I updated my iPhone and iPad to iOS 7 and so far it's ok but a little toon town!
