Aren't whisky barrels curved, and aren't the staves only about an inch thick? How are they going to use those without straightening them?

What a great marketing strategy? Get the potential rich punter to drink the cask of Whiskey to get them in the right frame of mind to part with 25 grand and then build the TT out of the empty cask.... Genius

How is Linn a "Highland" brand when their factory is in Glasgow?

Clever: you'd need to have the complementary bottle of whisky inside you to appreciate the LP12...they've obviously been listening to market research

Soz Linn...only jesting...a bit.

A very convenient deliberate error me thinks - 'Highland' being a word loved by marketeers to conjure up images of romance and mystique...

So given the wood doesn't make the deck worth 25K, what does?

I've got my 10 year old Nissan Maxima for sale. The boot is full of 40 week old beer and the seats are made from recycled Heineken cardboard boxes. £25,000. 3.5% discount to AOS members. This is a limited run of one, and is offered as a celebration of my best friend's workmate's bridge-partner's birthday next July.

The little plaque which confirms that you, you lucky beggar, are one of a select 40 customers being charged 25K for a recycled and straightened whiskey barrel as part of Linn's environmentally friendly recycling scheme...green schemes are always subsidised don't ya know...in this case by the lucky punters parting with all that cash :D

The scarcity value.

I would love to own one, and if I was a millionaire I would seriously consider buying one. The LP12 is not just about the music, I freely admit there are better turntables out there for less money. But no other single turntable has the history and the British (Scottish) heritage of the LP12. It's a bit like owning classic cars or classic watches. There are better and cheaper options on the market, but that is to miss the point entirely.

Why do people pay more for brands of any type of consumer goods? We are all guilty of it, from food and drink to clothes to cars etc etc.. I say good luck to Linn and good luck to those that buy the 40th anniversary Highland Park turntable, a super product and I bet the whisky is one of the finest available. Highland Park is my favourite single malt so it's a good combination IMO.

I also reckon it's a bargain, in another 40 years it will still be working, dealers will be around to service it and it will be worth £250k.

"I luv suckers - hic!"

Ivor - rumoured to be heard uttering these precise words after one dram to many when unit 40 ships out the door.

40 x 25000 = 1 cool million.
