Now, I sold all my vinyl ages ago... I don't have a phono stage & can barely even remember how to set a TT up  And yet everytime I see a TD124 I WANT ONE !

For a fleeting moment I consider turning not only my hifi on its head but my music collection too, and then it passes... Until next time. Am I unwell or do others share similar irrational desires ? If so, whats yours ? :D

I have the same irrational desire when it comes to the TD124/II. It's those lovely curves - as well as superb Swiss engineering. Maybe that's why I have 3 of them!

I have the same irrational desire towards SME arms - but this case it's because they are an example of superb British engineering. I have 3 of them as well!

I have an irrational desire towards collecting pick up cartridges - they are like pieces of 'jewellery'. Anyway, I've always been fascinated by the whole electro-mechanical process of record playing. Strange, since LPs comprise about 1/3 of my music collection.

You must have one! You must! This wont go away, oh no. Do it!
As for me...I've got the horn for a loverly big black Modwright integrated amp. Just not sure I'm up to the consequences if I do supersize my cojones!

tbh: If the wife can spend a couple grand a time of crappy holidays abroad that i have to put up with for a fortnight of my life enduring i think it's only fair i buy a Thorens 'TD124' eh? yes too right..So thats my mission for next year..

Right chaps & chappesses whats the going rate for an armless 'TD124'? Ive not looked into spares or The two different motor versions but i recon the spare are plentifull..

Glad to see I'm not the only one. Andre, I'm in the same boat... Just cant afford one :( If you can shuffle the finances to get one then good on ya

I'll take solace in the fact I might own one someday, a chap over on PFM found a 401 in a charity shop for £30 apparently so there's always hope

I can't find a piccy at the minute

but vw camper van. And I think this is an itch I will end up scratching. I have used the bloody things too, once on safari in South Africa, and once on holiday in France with a friend, so I know just how slow, noisy and impractical they are - but

Hmmm ;)

The only other turntable i would buy instead of a 'TD124' & be happy is the Trio '400M' motor unit.

I have something very similar: 124/II / SME 3012 / EMT XSD15 but in a different customised plinth, hand made for me by J. Choong.
