I have a small issue with my laptop that im hoping those in the know might have encountered in the past

Here goes: When typing out a thread on say a forum or write an E-Mail after awhile my cursor will suddenly jump in between what ive already written previously,so i end up making a mess that doesnt make sence, it annoys me as i type fast without looking at the screen! what's causing this? Ive done all the usual clean ups, scans etc.. is it a RAM issue?

This happens to me too André and is caused by catching another key (to this day I don't know which) while you are typing. It's not malware dude, just a typing malfunction. Back to one-finger typing for me then... hehe

It could be to do with the mouse or track pad. Are you using an external mouse and do you have another you could try? Also check everything is plugged in properly.....

Yes im using a Logitec trackball, i have tried another still the same.

Hmmm, my guess is that it's more likely to be hardware than software related. When the cursor jumps does it flicker? Is it like this:

If you are using a laptop then you are accidentally touching the scrolling area with the side of your thumb that is facing downwards as you type away. I do it all the time and still get caught out.

Yup, that sounds about right Stan, it happens to me a lot. Also, and again I am not sure how, I will inadvertently delete an entire block of text on occasions which can be very frustrating. This never happens when I'm using my desktop PC incidentally.

I have exactly the same problems as synsei on my Vaio laptop. I had Win8 on it and reinstalled Win7 because I suspected a compatibility problem but it behaved exactly the same. Although I've never been able to pin the culprit down (other than I've noticed the letter 'e' seems to often mark the point at which it happened) I suspect the track pad 'touch' is the problem. I tend to type two handed but only using the index finger on each, depending which side of the keyboard the required letter is situated. Using the index finger on the left hand to hit the 'e' key the thumb hovers quite close to the left of centre touch pad.

It is possibly due to the same circumstances as Stan describes Dave, but in this instance, as one's thumb brushes the touchpad a section of text is highlighted after which any subsequent keystrokes will overwrite what has been written...

If you are using a separate optical mouse as many do. Check underneath that the red light is free of fluff. That can make the cursor jump about.

You'll get completely different result if you try to do it with your organ.
.....it'll be messier n'all.
