Microsoft Word 2010

The current laptop I use came with Word 2010 but not the full version one, has to put up with an ad at the right hand side of the screen and slightly buggy performance unless you buy the full version at £80.

What I discovered today was that there seems to be (never heard or read anything about this anywhere) a limit on how long one has access - via Word 2010 - to work on previously written and saved work one has written using this program.

I have a number of stories and other item I can no longer open via word the files have gone orange in colour and when one clicks on them to open one is told the following......

Does anyone know what's going on here? and if it is as I fear there is a time limit on using this version of Word re re working/editing without buying Word can someone give me an alternative Freeware program Word compatible.

I am able and have removed the Documents to email via attaching them as attachments and I can open them in Google View so I can cut and paste I guess and work on them via another laptop.

Frankly I think it a scandal I was not warned about this and my work is being held to ransom by this program and Windows :(

If you had paid attention when you opened up Word for the first time you'll have noticed that the stuff you actually opened mentioned the fact that useage time was limited.
Microsoft have not held you to ransom.

When you first opened up Microsoft Word you'll have also had the option to use the Starter version.
This is free.
I use the starter version - I do not need the added functionality of fully blown Word.

Sorry to have to be blunt, but that's the way it is ...

I don't recall seeing a time limit but I was fairly sure it was the Starter Version I did click on to use, because I thought at the time it was scandalous to have to pay for a program that used to be free with every version of Windows in the past - my understanding. I have been using 2010 for quite awhile now at least two years (September 2011) with no problem and now it isn't working.

That's a strange one - 2 years is a long time to trial software.
Maybe you've clicked on something in error and evoked a full blown trial - it's something most of us have done at some point.

Yes still there on the desk top and still operable.

The issue is that items that I wrote awhile ago on Word and then saved via it or downloaded but opened to edit and then saved are now Orange in colour and Word shows that message when I try to open them. It is very odd.

I don't recall clicking on anything but I guess its possible.

The whole MS office scam is ridiculous.

Get this: http://www.libreoffice.org/ and be done with it, compatible with all office formats, the only time I wouldn't recommend it is if you're an Excel power user but for all other office tasks it's more than up to the job.
