Hi there

One of the things that stops me from listening to vinyl as much as I'd like is the pain in the arse of having to get up every five minutes from the sofa walk to the other side of the room to change the record.

I'm having my living room extended at the moment and am toying with the idea of having a 'club/dj' type set up ie purchasing a second deck and having them set up across the room from the speakers. Then I can have the next vinyl cued up and ready to play when one is coming to an end. This would, I'm presuming, mean the use of a mixer.

Sound quality is paramount so the question is is there a mixer out there that wouldn't degrade the rest of my lovely sounding kit?

Thanks

For the sake of saving 10 secs or so i wouldn't bother.
Just have half a dozen or so lp's lined up first.

You have to get up turn it over anyway...
Switch, or switched inputs makes more sense if the objective is just 2 decks, which will save a few seconds only anyway....

Try running your TT at the correct speed. You only have to get off your arse twice in an hour if you get this aspect right

Not sure what you are on about, I listen to 12 inch singles, I own about two LPs if that's what you mean.

It's not just the 10secs, it breaks the mood having to put my beer down and walk across the room, change the record and walk back again.

On a more serious note, I found a passive mixer here: http://www.rotarymixer.net/

Also a high quality one here: http://superstereo.co.uk/

I would investigate the RANE desks......................We at Soulful Dance own one of these, the two box version, and are really happy with it. It has surprised a lot of people, when I have been fettling it, although the initial price was rather high. We use ours with Graham Slee phono stages.......
So unless you have used a high quality desk...........................

I use a £10 splitter similar to this with my tts;

I've never knowingly heard one of these but I understand they're quite sought after (especially a 'proper' urei one, they're one of those brands that's been passed around a fair bit!)

Hi Stu

I'd love it if the cost of the solution was £10 but I'm very sceptical that something like that would murder the sound quality. I vaguely remember trying a cheap switch a few years back (for some other reason) and it ruined the sound

Thanks Marc and Stewart, I'll look into those

You are very welcome David, the Rane RIAAs are no slouches either, as bundled units they sound as good as most stand alone RIAAs, although they do lack a little in sensitivity, but this is obviated by careful use of the gain controls on the mixer. If you click on my homepage you should find some pix of it in use.
