Hi there fellow AoS members!

So after a few PM exchanges with Marco over another forum, as a newbie on the 1210, I decided to register on this great forum!

I've already read many, many threads... Great source of info!

So about me...

Located: Lisbon metropolitan area
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Technics SL-1200 Mk2: Hell Yes :) (Bought it only a week ago - Mint condition - Unused - Boxed)


Objective: get the most of the 1210, step by step. DD T/T are indeed special. Let's see if this fellow can cup up with my remaining rig.

Biggest challenge (in a newbie's perspective): How to overcome the known limitations of the 1210 (and most DD) in terms of sound-staging


Current system:
- Jeff-Rowland Model 6 w/ BPS-6 Battery power supplies - power amp
- Jeff-Rowland Synergy IIi - pre
- Monitor Audio PL300 (Considering the Apogee duetta signature path refurbed w/ Graz's new ribbons and updated XOvers)
- Sony SCD-1
- Abrahamsen V6 DAC (Temporary DAC)
- Mac Mini w/ AudioNirvana +
- Technics SL 1210 mk2
- No phono Stage Yet - (Considering Jeff-rowland Cadence - A bit steep for what I was thinking)


Favourite Music: well, that's easy, good music! :P

Seriously, everything from classic, to prog. rock, rock, pop, jazz, blues, indie.... I don't know... Don't like to put things in little boxes with labels...

I hope you will enjoy this forum as much as we all do.
Plenty of knowledge, tips, great ideas and some banter as well!

If you read some of my very old thread, I was indeed concerned by the 'limited' soundstaging of the Technics in its original form.
I had a Gyrodec SE, with an SME 309 arm and a Dynavector 17D3. And the stage produced by the Technics was rather flat compared to the Gyro, but did the Technics Boogie! where the Gyro was 'plodding' along...:sofa:

Anyway, nearly 2 years down the line, needless to say the Gyro is long gone, and the Technics is singing!
Soundstaging is important and I attach special attention to it, but there are sometimes compromise to be made.
And I am sure when you have started the 'upgrade' route, you will see how some of the fantastic attributes of the techie will outweight some of it's shortcomings...

Anyway, I am rambling!

Very good taste on the Sony SCD-1, a stunning piece of kit and one that I loved for a few years in my system.
Meanwhile, there are plenty of good phono stages to get that Technics playing music.
