Getting started

I quite fancy buying an entry level new turntable, the Rega RP1 (£230) has caught my eye. I want something new, easy to use/ set up and offering good bang for buck- the Rega has a nice upgrade path that I can follow..... IF.....I get along with vinyl.
I presume I will need a MM pre amp as my Tisbury audio passive pre doesn't have one.....Richer sounds do a B TECH BT26 MM pre ( £25)......would this get me up and running.....

I haven't had a record player for 25 YEARS!!!!!! But its niggling away at me.Went to live gig last night and missed out on the vinyl record prize in the raffle.....my missus said why dont you just buy one!!!!!(turntable)

Nearly fell over !!!!---------just looking for a new starter system and will travel further down the road if I enjoy the music.......

Advice and thoughts greatly appreciated for getting started ( new and cheap TT and MM pre)?

Rega turntables are brilliant starters!
Great arms, great choice of MM cartridges...

A no brainer in my books for a starter system.

The rega fono is a perfect addition to the RP1.

Can't argue with the rega at that price point. Don't know the MM stages cos I've always had amps that do the business. There are plenty of alternative options (like some record players you can buy second hand), but no obvious reasons to prefer them.

I would only note that "handy upgrade path" = "locked into a manufacturer" and if you get the bug I would audition options other than just another rega arm on a rega deck at that point. But as I noted elsewhere - if you are buying "stock" and not modifying it is pretty easy to trade and upgrade. If you buy new, you get the dealer support and the warranties, but have to accept the "cost" when you come to upgrade.

Regards the phono stage value for money suggestions and advice would be helpfull.......a price point bellow the TT is imperative. Im starting a fresh!!!!! If spending a bit more will help me get the most bang for buck and keep the door open for future upgrades.

I had a Rega P3 and Denon Dl-110 but the Technics even in stock form beats it hands down IMO.

I've just sold a Graham Slee Gram Amp 2 SE phono stage, they're fantastic value for the money but you can get the cheaper versions from about £50 SH.

This is a fantastic performer at this price point!
Graham is great to deal with and his forum offers home loan to UK residents!
So you can always have a sneak preview of what lies above in the range at no cost!

With so much vinyl around, you will be hard pushed to chose what records to buy let alone what TT. Please may we welcome you to the analogue club, I am positive you will get huge amounts of pleasure from vinyl.

The choice of TT is not critical, a Rega or Pro-Ject in the first instance will get you going and as you understand your likes, what fits with your equipment and sound requirements you can then hit the upgrade trail and who knows where that will end.

Thanks for the warm welcome.....If I am honest the first tentative steps are daunting, but as always on this forum members hold out a steadying hand without hesitation or expectation of payback......centric is always enjoyment of the music.
