In a very introspective moment I was looking at my own profile which proudly proclaims "No friends". This is not facebook. Exactly what am I supposed to do with a friend if I get one?
And Chris (The Grand Wazoo) - where are all the women of which you speak - and why do they find nothing interesting enough to post comments?

Ah diddums. I only have one friend but it means that when I look at my posts (clicking my name at the top), I get any of his too. Its nice to see what your mates are posting without having to wade through everything. I do that first in the morning before looking at anything else.

Whilst the status message: "Oldpinkman has not made any friends yet", although true, is somewhat terse and depressing, it does give one a nice warm feeling to have a few members befriend you.
However having these friends confers no real advantage, apart from being able to go directly to their posts and if they are on-line, their name is supplemented with a "+" in the members on-line list. Some members with whom I have struck up good relations, are not included as my friends, for the reasons given: I have never asked them, nor they me - we communicate via PMs just like everybody else.
And where are the women? Well, I don't know how many we have on AoS (I think it's only about 30) but out of a membership of over 8,000 it is a very small proportion. Only a very, very few post reqularly: Bev (Ninanina) is one, and Natalie, Dom's wife of NWA used to be frequent poster. Not forgetting Marco's wife Del (Lily Munster) of course.
I suspect talking about audio matters is very much a male interest; women appreciate a good audio system, and are often more eloquent in their appreciation than men, but don't feel the need to do so. It's a bit like cars, I know some women who drive performance cars - and drive them well, but they don't have the slighest interest in talking about them, nor about the tyres fitted, or of the spark plugs used!
It is of course possible that all the 'laddish' humour and racy conversation sometimes indulged in here has scared them all away! :(

Ah well, I've always been anti social. But I find that as I get older, I appreciate the few close friends we have and enjoy the chance to sit around with some good food and wine and have a natter about nothing too important.
I even talk to my wife, who is much more outgoing than I am, sometimes..............even when there is music playing 'cos I'm one of these wierd people who reckons my wife is more important than the hi-fi:eek:
I hope I haven't shocked you too much:eyebrows:

O dear no one, i mean no one gets in our house. i would climb the walls if i knew they had dirty socks or anything like that, crumpling me soft cushions etc etc... Perfection & looking after stuff {That only you can yourself instead of watching people like hawks} is priority in my life..

I think you're wrong there Barry. Women are pretty thick skinned when it comes to 'laddish' traits. They've heard it all before and although they may regard it as beneath them, they are unlikely to be put off by it all.
I think it's just that Hi-Fi, as with other technical pursuits, just have no interest for the majority of women. Shame really, the more the merrier on AOS I say. I like women (and most of them like me :)).

I hate to brag.
No, I should have said 'most of the women who know me'.
Like the new avatar, I've never seen you look better!:D

I've posted very little over the past couple of months as I keep getting notifications that I'm not logged in after I go to post a reply. I got the photo to reply to Ian L 1962 in the headphone recommendations thread. I couldn't upload it as a photo to post, but could as an avatar. It does amuse me.

This is a shame. Its taken until this end of my life to find someone I actually like as well as all the other stuff.
