That machine is expensive! I have a Cowon iAudio M5L http://www.amazon.co.uk/iAudio-iAUDIO-M5-20GBL-Player-Silver/dp/B000BSU6BY it's a bit old, but great value if you can find one. 35 hour battery life and £100 when I bought mine. I have the Rockbox (http://www.rockbox.org/) open firmware loaded to mine, and it extends the filetype compatibility, adds proper gapless playback and skinnability. Not the best looking interface but it sounds brilliant!

yeah i put rockbox on my ipod once but it made the battery life whilst playing flacs laughably short!
i also couldnt tell the difference out of headphones without a separate headphone amp between the flac files and the high quality mp3s so i sacked it off

its more the modular form of this new thing that interests me, and the fact that it has been designed and built by people, from what i understand, know about headphones and high SQ kit

I have one of those too. Bought it in 2004 and loved it to bits, then it fell by the wayside when I got a shiny new iPod with its colour screen and fancy artwork handling, and seamless podcast downloading and so and and so forth.

Now the iPod has fallen by the wayside as I've realised that in terms of musical enjoyment, it's rubbish and the iAudio wipes the floor with it ;). So now that I've installed the latest version of Rockbox on it which has given it gapless playback and started using Songbird on Ubuntu, I have the best of both worlds.
