New Turntable

I won't ever sell my Thorens TD-124 but I have felt the need to get a really straightforward, no-nonsense, no-tweaking deck that can perform vinyl replay duties when I am fiddling with and fettling the Thorens. Someone here on AoS recently posted a link to the new Analogue Works Turntable One, sold by Divine Audio - this looks like astonishing value, so I had a good chat with the designer at Divine Audio to get a feel for what it is. In short, it's very much inspired by Nottingham Analogue and Fletcher Audio, seems to be properly engineered where it needs to be, comes with a basic Martin Bastin designed PSU, and can be bought with a lid (quite important). Here is the thing:

So, I've ordered one at the special price of £599. My Audio Note Arm3 II will go very nicely, methinks.



PS I most definitely did not want a Technics, before anyone mentions it!

Why not ? it will do ALL of your requirements

I run a standard Sl1200 MK11 for quite some time and was VERY happy with it , only recently sold it to another forum member who was also blown away with the performance of a std TT

Replace it with a upgraded 1210 with Timestep PSU and Mike new bearing and a much better arm :)

Or is you choice based on a liking of rubber bands ;)

I fully understand your sentiments regarding a stock Technics. I had one back in 2009 and realised how poor a performer it was when I was forced to sell it and move to a more 'traditional' means of playing vinyl. At that time I also had a Croft pre/power but still maintain that this was one of the finest amplifiers I have ever heard.

If rubber bands give a better sound then I fully support them.

A Technics will do everything that I want apart from play music. That's maybe a tad severe, but I have been there with a Technics, MN bearing, different tonearms, external PSUs, fancy feet, mats etc.

I really don't care what drive system is in a record player, as long as the thing can play music (as opposed to sounds). The TD-124 does, after all have a belt and an idler. My biggest audio mistake in recent years was selling on my old NA Heavied and Waved Spacedeck - if I'd kept that, I would have saved a small fortune, but would probably have missed out on the TD-124, which is a bit of a gem. There is a good chance that the new Analogue Works deck will be similar to the old Spacedeck since it's conceptually quite similar (same motor too).

Yes - I am told that the special price applies to the remaining 3 turntables from the first production run, of which I have bought one. So, anyone else wanting one should phone Divine Audio sooner, rather than later.

It's a helluva lot of turntable for the money. I'm in now as well. I hardly ever buy new, but this one just seems too good to miss.

Beautiful turntable by the way. I'd love one with an Origin Live arm.

Whoever posted the original link to this has my thanks. I've not been able to locate it myself. The TT is all UK made and it comes as a real tonic compared to some manufacturers pricing policies. My Xerxes in 1988 was £633 and this seems of at least equal build, only £34 cheaper some 25 years later.

For anyone looking for a 110v TT PSU (which I think will cover a number of decks using Philips motors) the PSU and indeed all the parts are available separately. The PSU is only £100 which is silly cheap.

Well mine arrived today and I think it's splendid. I put some pics in my system Gallery. I'd be interested in hearing how Hugo's getting on with his. I'm busy enjoying mine on some Alto Extremo feet, which seem better than Isonoes or the stock feet, but it's early days.

Truth be told, it's lovely irrespective of choice of feet. Is it better than my Xerxes? Possibly it is, but I've lived with and loved Roksan decks for 27 years, so it's hard for me to be objective, and they do have different signatures. Let's say the Roksan is Mike Tyson and the Analogue Works is Sugar Ray Leonard :) As a big boxing fan, I choose to keep both!

I've been a bit too busy this week to play around with the Analogue Works deck, but it is certainly an impressive looking thing. Impressively packaged, too.
