What other hobbies/interests do you have other than Hi-Fi/Music?

An unhealthy obsession for all things 1960's
British Diesel/Electric locomotive up to the Total Operations Processing System of the late 60's
British & European History
1960's Sci-Fi Films/TV aswell as novels
1960's British Transport

I watch too much telly. Work is a sort of hobby for me. I weaned myself off computer games a while back, but had a relapse recently, currently working through John Tillers 'Campaign Series' which is a turn based WWII strategy game.

Right now I'm loving taking exercise, but not the "gymnasium" kind.

I'm having great fun taking long walks of 15-20 miles, going the long way round to get from A to B.

I also love swimming, again better from A to B than just swimming around or doing lengths in a pool. I really like swimming in choppy water.

Cycling is a real favourite too, although I hate cleaning my bikes. I'm a MTB guy rather than a road biker.

I also get a kick from DIY which an also be great exercise and also a real learning opportunity. Not much opportunity right now, but I know it will feature in my life soon enough and I'm relishing it.

Cars and vehicles of all descriptions (worked for Rolls Royce for two years and got hooked on all things vehicular)
Running and Gym
Collecting antique watches and clocks.

I like watches too. There seems (in my mind at least) to be a crossover between watches and hifi. I get the same feeling when I get a nice watch as I do when I track down a hifi gem. Breitling is my thing, but I can see why others like different makes.

Photography, but not done much lately (must get started again).

Messing about with cars occasionally, it used to be an obsession (and motorbikes).

Reading, I just pop down the charity shop and come back with an armful of paperbacks, which I read for an hour or two after going to bed. I never look at the covers when selecting a book. I just start reading to see how it goes.

I'm a proconsumer photograher with a bit of a sales record and a legit international publication credit.
Love, as a spectator, powerboat racing and travelling around the regional circuits. Unfortunately that was a long time ago before I moved to Queensland, which is way too far from all the powerboat action. The screaming wail of a blown big block pushing a boat along at about 140mph was mesmerizing stuff.

I don't know how anyone finds the time to watch TV!!:)

There is just too much to do.

Books - Sci-Fi, biography, science, history
Cars - Italian, mostly Alfas but the occasional Lancia or even Ferrari thrown in - this is why I drive a Ford Sierra Estate:(
Food - you name it - everything except tea an coconut.
Wine - well I do live in France
Wood - Turning, furniture, bits for the house (I won't mention Guitars and other instruments as its not allowed in this thread)
Building - amateur but essential as a lot needs doing and dosh is not exactly abundant at the mo.
Computing - use of, I know nothing technical - Internet, graphic design, even the odd game or two.

And....... not my favourite thing to do but I have to join in doing the garden, we have 4 hectares out there. My bit is the grass so at least I can enlist the help of the occasional machine. I do quite like picking the fruit as I can nosh the occasional one or two.

And then after lunch.................

I am THE t.v addict. It comes a very close 2nd to listening to music. I find it a great relaxer and the ultimate "child minder" (yes - I am the child:D)

In my case it's Sex, Drugs and Rock 'n' Roll!

No seriously, it's:

[1] Photography (though since the advent of digital photography I seem to do a lot less of it now).

[2] Travel; I just love going to far-away places (often to places that are politically dubious), places which are well off the tourist track. (And to relate to [1], most, if not all of my photography is travel photography.)

[3] Good food and drink, especially Wine! I have an unhealthy interest in, and enjoyment of fine French reds, be they Bordeaux or Burgandy.

[4] Cinema, especially world cinema, though there are some Hollywood efforts that I enjoy watching. I'm a bit of a sucker for foreign films if they are in black and white and with sub-titles. Have a particular interest in Hungarian, Iranian and Japanese cinema.

[5] Walking, be it trekking in parts foreign, or simply out for a 'Sunday walk' in the countryside, well away from anywhere. I'm a bit of a closet dendrophile - I just love trees!

[6] Reading - almost anything and everything: the Classics, books on archeology, comparative religion, sci-fi, modern humour, travelogues, some biography and autobiogaphy, books on science, cartography, folk tales and poetry.

[7] Drinking real ale and engaging in lively conversation with my friends.

Oh, and I do like sex - but you don't really want to know that!

I have been collecting stamps for about 45 years now. But I haven't done much of it in the last year or two since I have acquired almost all the stamps that I started off to collect. I say almost all. In fact I am missing just one. It's costly and hard to get in the condition that I want. So the search for that elusive example goes on.

I used to do a lot of angling, but my fishing buddy passed away a while back and it just ain't the same without his company. I do have some lovely fishing gear though, many of it never used.

I am also into modded cars. But I don't drive so fast any more. To many points and bans.

I collect brandies. XO types are my favourite. But I don't drink the stuff.

I like a wide variety of things but this weekend I started to realise an idea that I have had for almost 30 years - I started to build myself a garden railway :eyebrows:

I won't bore you with constructional details but here it is with the first stage completed.

There is plenty of work to do in terms of landscaping and general tidying up but I can now run things.
Another larger loop is planned to run outside this one and can be seen in this shot from earlier in the day when I was in full 1:1 planning mode!

My garden is small which in some ways is good as it has made the project achievable and in reality I went from planning to running the first train in about 6 hours, so not a bad effort for a Saturday afternoon :)

It is G Scale Barry running on 45mm gauge track; so the next track size up from O Gauge but with the locos and stock representing narrow gauge prototypes at a scale of 1:22.5 or 13.5mm to the foot.
