View Full Version : Pinging Marco or anyone else who can add something on this.
Hi Marco,
I've been wondering. Have you ever compared your highly modded Technics with the remodelled version available from Aspire?
If you have, what was the outcome? If you haven't is it something worth considering?
Obviously I'm expecting such a bake off would use the same arm and cartridge.
I have absolutely no hidden agenda in these questions. I'm simply inquisitive to know how they compare.
Regards,
Greg

I think yer mean "INSPIRE".....don't you Greg????? :)
The "Inspire Monarch" is likely the deck you're talkin' about as it's Technics 1200/10 based AFAICR.
Check this review over on Hi-Fi Wigwam......mebbe PM t' OP* (*Duncan) as he may have previously run a Techy 1210. I'm sure there's peeeps on here too, but I mostly post on the WAM so have less familiarity with some posters on here.

Hi Greg,
Nope, much as I'd love to have had the opportunity, I've not compared my T/T to the Inspire Monarch, which I suspect would be very good indeed (although I hate the aesthetics). However, if you'd like to hear my T/T in comparison with anything else (your own T/T) or whatever, you're more than welcome to bring it here to do so - or I could travel to you? :)
What's the plan - are you thinking of changing your turntable?
Marco.

No, definitely not! You know I'm a die hard Garrard man:).......until of course I hear something better :eyebrows:
As said, I am simply inquisitive to know how a well fettled Technics sounds in comparison to the Inspire Monarch. I'm actually surprised no-one appears as yet to have done a full comparison. I am grateful to Chris for putting me right on the company name and for the link he posted. Unfortunately, that link just details the OP's appreciation of the Inspire but does not consider the comparison I am interested in.
l have had the pleasure to hear the Monarch in anger, and it sounded bloody brilliant- end of.:)

Hehehe... Indeed - I was wondering!

Well, I'm well up for that if anyone who has a Monarch would like to have a bake-off! :exactly:
Marco.

I spent several hours in the company of Bob Isherwood, the proprietor of Inspire the year before last. He is a very approachable and genial person. His company is based near to Staveley which is south east of Sheffield. Realistically not that far from Wrexham for a day trip. I have no doubt he would happily entertain you for a day and make comparison with your own Techy. Considering your current kudos in the Hi-Fi media et al, it seems to me you would benefit greatly from a visit to Inspire. Why not set it up? The outcome could be extremely educational for many, especially members here on AOS who want to get the very best out of there Technics TT's. What do you think?

Greg

I think he's nearer to Bolsover than Staveley. But anyways, Bob is a top chap, been to his gaff before and he has some great stuff.
I've heard the Monarch too and it does sound very nice indeed. Unfortunately I'm a retro bloke and love my Thorens too much.

That's the attitude - you show 'em!

Then both players would need the same arm/cart/ phonostage etc.:)

Hi Greg,
First of all, thanks for your kind remarks about my apparent kudos in the hi-fi media. I'm not sure that's true, but I do my best to try and offer something thought-provoking and worthwhile for people to read! :)
I like the idea of what you're suggesting and may give Bob a call. What sort of set up does he have there, and did you manage to get a listen to the Monarch or any of his other turntables - if so, what did you think? Oh, and what prompted you going there in the first place? Just curious!
Marco.

I met him a couple of years ago at the Wittlebury Show through a friend who at the time had one of his TT's. At the time the Monarch was not in production so I have not heard it and this rather prompted my question in the first place. We spent a couple of hours in his room and his TT's sounded very good. In the evening we socialised with him over a few beers and some live music. I don't know what his set up is in his premises apart from knowing he uses a Whest Phono stage. I feel sure he would entertain you in a bake off and would accommodate your wishes as closely as possible. In particular, at the show I listened to his LP12 upgrade and compared to a Linn factory option, based on both price and SQ, for LP12 lovers, buying his kit should be a no brainer IMO.
That Monarch is a tad special.
I would have thought Marco may have bit the bullet & bought a vintage TT by now but on the other hand i think that he may not do that {at least in his main system}
I can't honestly see him being happy compared it to what he uses now..
Sorry, your post is completely nonsensical. What does a vintage TT have to do with this? I'm simply interested in a comparison between his highly upgraded Technics which I've heard, acknowledging it's good sound and the Inspire Monarch which is also a highly upgraded Technics (using up to date parts) but built from a different perspective. That is why a comparison would be very interesting and informative, with the possible benefit to all Techy owners here.....I believe there are quite a few.

just call it a think out loud post. which i will delete just for you.
Hi Greg,
It's just something between Andre and me - don't worry about it.
Thanks for the info in your previous post, which is noted. When I get some free time in my diary, I'll contact Bob and arrange a visit. It could form part of an interesting write up (with photos) for AoS, so thanks for the suggestion :)
