Oh, they can lift it for sure.

Over the years I have had customers with far larger and heavier kit than your's, stolen in a very short time. The felons taking everything right down to the speaker cables and remotes. One poor chap was burgled twice as the bast*rds were watching his home and took his insurance replaced system a few days after we installed it. The insurance company believed it was me stealing the kit. Tossers.

I wonder if this system could be nicely hacked, kit targeted and identified by neer do wells and in Eastern Europe shortly after

Im not sure it is so great an idea. As you say it could be hacked.

The UV pen idea is good - it increases the chance of the equipment being found eventually. But im not sure the 'window stickers' are much of a deterrent - if anything they say "valuable stuff inside, take a look!"

That said, I like the luggage tags, i use a similar system:

I like this because you can put it on keys, luggage, phones, purses. And there is a chance that you will get it back if someone cares enough to help.

Luggage tags come off all the time, so you double tag your luggage - including a very small tag that goes on the zipper - i think this is great! It also lessens the likelihood of a baggage handler bothering to try to 'make your luggage look lost' - yes they do that in many countries...

Even a thief may feel bad enough to drop your keys in the mailbox!

Big spend I imagine, but great if you have a lot to lose

Smart water is another way

Tony,

sounds like a line from a the Tao Te Ching "Grasshopper, smart water flows the other way"

Nonetheless i found it, it looks very interesting:

the website does not have any costs (read expensive!) - anyone know how much it is?
