Bought this of ebay spares or repair just wondered the caps appear to be leaking or is it me :scratch:

Thats glue bud. A technique commonly used by Japanese manufacturers for securing large caps.

Hello James

Just occasional drop out of right channel will give a spray with Survisol Super 10 see if that does the trick

No... If cleaning the controls doesn't help I'd be looking at the relay. When the channel drops out if changing speakers selection [A/B/A+B] or "whacking" the volume up restores the sound chances are the relay needs a clean. Gently tapping the top of the relay with a screwdriver handle will also agitate the problem.

Not looking to promising lads sprayed it with now luck still both channels dip in & out on tuner & CD.

Weird because inside its completely clean & dust free

Any suggestions as to what it could be im thinking maybe a faulty volume pot i dont know.

Nah I doubt it... I've never seen one anyway ! Work all of the less often used buttons on/off 20 times or so [tape monitor, tone direct etc etc]

Have you tried tapping the relay with a screwdriver handle or similar ? If so does that make the channels dip in/out ?

Yes i have done tapping the relay but not when its on but will give it a try..maybe it needs to warm up a bit

PS BOTH CHANNELS DO DIP IN & OUT WHEN I TAP THE RELAY IS THIS AN EASY FIX OR.?? COULD ANYONE HELP ME OR.

You can either replace it with a new one which will require desoldering 6 solder pads & then resoldering them once the new relay's fitted or if your feeling brave you can try cleaning it :eyebrows:

I'm gonna go ahead & assume you want to try and clean it... The plastic cover protecting the relay will come off [even if it doesn't feel like it!]

You need to squeeze the two shortest sides of the relay with your thumb & index finger whilst pulling upwards, it will pop off.

Then you need to get a small piece of clean paper, fold it once for strength & soak it with Servisol cleaner... Gently run it back & forth between the contacts whilst applying very gentle pressure so it ever so slightly abrades the contacts.

If the contact are deeply pitted it will need replacing but this should get it working OK short term.

It would be worth just trying to clean it first - You cant make it any worse :D

Happy to sort it out 'pro bono' but courier costs are prohibitive... A replacement relay will cost around £5.

Hehe, I think everyone says that the first time they try to take one apart - It can take a lot of force just be careful the PCB isn't flexing when your pulling it.

Try pulling it off with a rocking motion. The cover is held on by a pair of plastic lugs on the base that clip into the plastic case. Carefully pulling/rocking/twisting is usually enough to get the cover off even on the most stubborn.
