Old cartridges

Got these two old cartridges in a job lot with a lenco headshell -

Couple of questions -

Is it worth getting the RP70 retipped for £112?

Is it worth investing in a new stylus for the Goldring for £40?

Roy you wont get a styli for that Goldring only a compatable but i don't think id risk my records with one.

If the cantilever's intact, I'd do the Goldring - send it to Goldring for re-tipping.......

I believe the RP70 is Goldring derived too, but I think the generator gives a very dull balance unless I'm very much mistaken :scratch:

The 820e? I don't think so at this time - the Super E was the star here...

There's some standard '820' NOS on auction but other than that you have to sit on em waiting for originals to turn up.. I have a 'G900IGC' & 'G920IGC' with duff stylus waiting & waiting & waiting :eyebrows:

Cantilever's knackered on the 920 IGC & don't fancy chancing a retip on the RP70 when I don't even know if it'll work.

Just looking to source another couple of carts to play with, still hey ho...

Ah, the Elite EEI 500.

When released in the early 80's, it was £39 but really didn't sell. So. Max upped the price to £84 (IIRC), got a good review in a mag and it sold steadily.

I've used most old Shures, Goldrings, Stantons, Grados, Ortofons and the like, but the only old non MC cartridges I stick with are ADCs. If you get a chance to hear one you'll realise why, they sound amazing!

Agree about ADCs: I have an ADC25 and two 10E Mk.IVs. Another excellent MM cartridge is the AKG P8ES. I would love to get my hands on a B&O MMC20CE cartridge to complete the triumvirate.
