This is a copy of an email I just sent to my car insurance company and the name has been disguised to protect the guilty:
I am truly disgusted with Ch*****ll.
I rang on Tuesday the 27th in the morning to arrange cover for a car I was about to purchase. I was told the call centre was "too busy" to deal with me and they would call me back at 8.00pm. That call never happened, but it's not the end of the world.
Wednesday morning I rang again and this time I did manage to arrange cover for the new car, but I forgot to ask about a Certificate of Insurance so I could tax the car as it runs out on the 31st August.
Thursday morning I rang to ask for proof of insurance so I could tax the car and was told I could either have an "acknowledgement of cover" at no cost, or if I paid £9.56 I could have a copy of the Certificate faxed to me. I don't have a fax machine (who does these days?) but luckily my previous employer does, but that meant a 35 mile round trip for me just for that purpose. I made the journey at 3.00pm only to find no fax, which meant I had to ring again. I received the fax around 20 minutes later.
The "acknowledgement of cover" is utterly useless for car tax purposes and it doesn't help when Churchill print very clearly on the page in big letters that it isn't suitable for taxing a car, so my journey was a complete waste of my time and money.
The core of my complaint therefore is that I am deeply offended and upset that my insurer will happily ask for £9.56 for a copy of a document I am entitled to have because I pay a premium already for it and see no reason to pay yet again, when Ch*****ll know full well I MUST have it by law to tax a car. Given that it took no more time/effort/money to fax a useless document than it would have done for the correct document, I find it bizarre that Ch*****ll could even remotely justify asking £9.56 except for lining it's own pockets and profiteering when in a position to do so.
I was hoping that the post this morning would have the Certificate so I could tax the car today, but nothing came in the post either so after today I cannot use the car. Thanks, Ch*****ll.
I was in two minds whether to take my business elsewhere and after this treatment I will certainly do so come renewal time.
Disgusted,
Etc.
