I have one and reviewed it somewhere in AoS. It's effective, slightly better sounding than my Bruil and stupid expensive. What can I say?

Al, when I follow that link, it takes me to an Ebay page - there's the weight you referred to at the top and then below that there lies a list of dire records with one or two that are mildly desirable. This list represents the absolute pinnacle of pishanto......a crucible of crap......a maelstrom of merde!
This would be the results of one of your regular Ebay searches then?
£440 is not a lot compared to other pucks, some cost £2000+

There's a Voyd Valdi on Wigwam going for about the same money. Another Valdi that needed a wee bit if fettling went for half that on EBay last week. I know where I'd rather put my money. Given the choice.

Its a good job no-one would buy anything just from a review:eyebrows:
What gets me is all these micro improvements are bigged up to the sky - night and day - no its not..........in my humble opinion (just call me Uriah)

Very little is "night and day" in system improvements and I avoid using that phrase like the plague. The honest answer is that the effects are subtle but most definitely there.

This puck business is wierd. We had a thread a few months ago with a poll for who uses one and I never had.
I found my old Mitchell clamp (never used!!) and thought I'd try it on my new DD TT. I was quite convinced that it had improved the bass which seemed tighter than before. tried again tonight with and without it and I can't tell any difference!! I'm sure that expectations are as important as the actuality sometimes.
I suspect I would have been a bit peeved if I'd spent £440 though:doh:

No, l would not indulge rather buy a Mike New Bearing- failing that more magnets.

I don't doubt you can hear improvements with it, mate, (over the Bruil) as you wouldn't have bought it otherwise :)
I'll need to listen to the effect the Stillpoint gives, versus the Bruil (using my T/T), next time I'm down, in order to form a proper opinion. However, so far, Stillpoints aside, I've disliked every high-mass weight I've used on the Techy. Getting rid of (IMO) too much mass was one of the reasons I moved from using the MN metal platter to the Funk Firm one.
For me, the Bruil is just about perfect for the job (mass-wise), but if I'm suitably impressed, when I try the Stillpoints, then I might be tempted. Price isn't an issue, if I'm convinced that the sonic gains warrant a purchase :cool:

Yes, that'll be a good comparison for you to hear. I wouldn't call the Stillpoints an ultra-heavy weight, it's just heavier than the Bruil. Its operation via the pads that contact the record surface is ingenious and somewhat unique, though.
Had a beer with Roy at Bristol last year....
he's not a dick, or a demigod, just somewhere in between, like the rest of us.
Can play the game though..can chuckle about it too.
