Picked up some very rare dance cassettes this morning :sofa:..Just thought i would give my old machine a running and it sounds excellent. Why did tapes go out of fashion some many memories of these things nostalgia i think its called

I miss my old 'Tosh' cassette deck (it wasn't all that but it did sound good) and would dearly like to pick up another deck when funds allow...

I've recently done the same, reintroducing my Nakamichi CR-2E. I've not used it probably for ten or more years as I passed it on to my mum when her Pioneer died and only got it back when she died. It took a few minutes to wake up but now seems to be fine. I was originally looking to sell it but seeing prices on eBay were around £50 a sale, I didn't see any point in passing it on. I'm very please now as it is a worthwhile returned addition to the system. Certainly it doesn't have the fidelity of my Garrard 401 or my heavily tweaked Naim CD3, but it is very listenable and has brought back into use a library of music that would otherwise have been lost :)

Yep, I'm a cassette fan, too.

Lots of charity shop pre-recorded tapes for 10p or so in my collection. :) OK, so half of them are sticky and get slung out, so that makes it 20p a pop .... :eyebrows:

They usually sound dire with Dolby B switched in, but use a graphic eq to dial in the correct amount of top cut and :thumbsup:

I have half a dozen cassette decks, my fav is the Technics 'RS273USD' it blows my Nakamichi '500' out the water..

I just don't see it myself. I remember when cassettes came out and back then they were regarded as poor in comparison to vinyl. The only thing in their favour was the portability and suitability for in car use. It took a couple of generations of player evolution to even get a decent audio bandwidth out of them. Many players had speed stability issues, which got worse as they aged. I was really never happy with the sound from cassette and was delighted when MiniDisc came along as a good recording and playback format.
