Whichever way you cut it the decision to detain David Miranda at Heathrow under Anti-terrorism laws for 9 hours was ill-judged and frankly thoughtless. The message this sends out to the public and those critical of Western security practices is utterly counter-productive, it just fans the flames of controversy and bolsters the opinions of people like myself. Whomever sanctioned this operation needs to consider their future very carefully.
