I'm looking for a mint Meridian 206 CD player... original remote would be nice, but its not a necessity... so any pointers appreciated ;)

Cheers
Pete

I've finally managed to source a nice example of a Meridian 206B... but can somebody explain the difference between a standard 206 and the 206B? Also... what is the preferred method of output to my DAC... coax or optical?

Hi, the original 206 was multi bit, using the fab TDA1541 S1 crown DAC. The later B suffix denoted the change to Bitstream conversion.

Here's a list of the various incarnations

MERIDIAN 206

TDA1541A-S1 (Single Crown)

CDM-4/21

MERIDIAN 206B

TDA1547 (DAC7) – SAA7350

CDM-4/19

MERIDIAN 206 BS

2 x SAA7321 – SAA7350

CDM-4/19

MERIDIAN 206 DS

CS4328-KS – SAA7310GP

CDM-4/19

I've not experimented much with optical leads, I'm afraid. Something on my "to do" list ;)

Many thanks Andrew... with regards coax vs optical, I've run both recently and cannot tell the difference or see any improvement of one over the other...

Personally I though the multi bit one sounded better than the bitstream one.
