1992 I bought a then new Yamaha RX-460 and some matching Monitor Audio Sevens.
I really like that combo – fast transients, dry bass, clean and lean sound …
2004 I started rebuilding my phono equipment; in the meantime this has yielded a Linn LP12, a Heybrook TT2 and a Stanton ST-100 for 78s playback.
I replaced the built in phonostage with a Trichord Dino and a mono preamp with variable curves for 78s, still use a CDP and a tapedeck plus a mac mini for audio and video playback.
These are too many sources for two inputs (CD, AUX; phono and built-in tuner do not count) plus two tape loops, not to mention an output to connect my MacBook to digitize 78s with Audacity.
Ideas so far:
baseline: min 4 inputs plus tuner plus two tape loops into 2x70 watts / 8 Ohms
- replace the RX-460 – with what?
- get a preamp with 4 inputs and feed that into the CD input of the RX-460?
all things considered I do not want different sound; we use a NAD-7020, a Yamaha CR-440, a Toshiba SA-7100, a LEAK Stereo 30+, a vintage HK receiver and a DUAL CR-60, but I prefer the sound of the RX-460 to any of them, though they do not sound bad, only different …
;-)
any input considering I am always on a budget – Kids, wife and life rate higher than audio "madness" – will be welcome …
