Judging by the picnic table in the background my guess is that they are 10" drivers Al, just to confuse matters ;)

4 hole basket HPD's came after the 8 hole baskets and before the elliptical shaped HPD series that were also fitted in similar cabs. The 8 hole baskets were pretty much identical to but came after the Golds.
These will be HPD 315 12" drivers.

They need a much, much bigger cab to really work well. The Devon is just 42lts Ok for a bit of voice monitoring but little bass / mid bass.
We did a trial with some CPA 12" Tannoy drivers (these are nice paper coned units), in full sized GRF-R cabs (~220lts but are back loaded horn), and they sounded glorious.

You can tell by the round chassis in the compact cabinet. The slightly smaller Eaton of the series had the 10" driver and 'quartic' (Tannoy's own name for it) shaped chassis. The next model up the range being the floor standing Cheviot, much larger. The Devon uses the 12" HPD 315 unit with the self destruct 'Tanoplas' surrounds. I had a pair of these and a pair of HPD cheviots (same drive unit) and did not like either, the top end was coarse and the bottom flabby. I found the Eaton marvellous in comparison.

I don't recall Tannoy ever using elliptical chassis. I think Steve is referring to the quartic frame. Apart from the Eaton with its HPD 295A, there were no quartic HPD's. The later ceramic magnet drivers had the quartic frame and superceded the HPD, they were used in the very last (Mk.II) Cheviots and Berkleys for a very short while and they sound very superior to the equivalent HPD. (I know, I've got the Mk.II Cheviots, same driver as the Balmoral)

Steve is correct in saying that the Devon cabinet is too small to do the 12" driver justice, it really needs something upwards of twice the volume.

12 inch HPDs from (probably) 1973/4 in Devon cabs. It's irrelevant really what the cab size is as most people bidding will be doing so for the drive units and crossovers and the enclosures will either be scrapped or sold on cheaply. The units (if not already re-furbed) will need re-foaming by now if not re-coning so I'd expect these to sell for no more than £400 to £500 tops. Saying that, HPDs seem to be going for silly money lately. I do hope they don't follow the Golds into unobtanium silly prices. Golds and HPDs have become way over-priced in recent years but there's a good reason for that...there's very few full range drivers that do it all so well (there are a few but they're equally as expensive).

Yes, absolutely no doubt that prices for the HPDs and later ceramic magnet dual concentrics as per SRM/LRM etc., will rocket sharply and start chasing the Golds! Now's the time to stock up as the costs for all pepperpot tweeter types are set to go crazy. Think about it, what else could you buy instead that has 'that sound'. There's nothing!

Even the pretty decent sounding tulip waveguide models just don't quite get there, do they? (and they use ferrofluid in the tweeters, which I don't like, as it dries out eventually)

I predict the HPD's etc., will all double in value (cost?) over the next year or so.
