Can anyone recommend a cheap DAC that would allow my son to feed his PC, XBox and Ps3 through his analogue amp.....and in so doing allow me to get my Beresford back from him that he seems to have "borrowed" from me.
Thanks
John

I was going to suggest the Maplin one..

Modern DAC's seem to have 'all of it' built in to one chip now, with a couple of others surrounding it for interfacing optical and USB etc.. Don't think you're going to be short changed this way, since the infamous Philips chip 'we' all love was actually around 2mm square, the rest of the package being the size it was to fit the pins down the side. This mostly means that as long as the chip manufacturers' recommendations are followed, a consistent sonic quality should be achievable. The output of some of these cheapo DACs is slightly lower than standard I think, so these should work well with older gear (and Naim too if records are also played).
