croft 7 power amp

Their is currently one for sale in the private exhibitions section.....can anyone with the experience advise me whether it would work with a passive pre......I have long ached to buy myself a croft amp pre/power set up but its out with my budget .

The pre I own is a Tisburry audio, that I really rate but does the croft power amp require an active pre, most probably matched with one of glens own designs. can anyone with real experience advise.

it would be required to drive a pair of static 63s or spendor sp1s. help/advice please!!!!

I've been trying out a Tisbury pre in my system for the past couple of weeks - and have to say I'm impressed with it's sound.

I've got a Croft 7 Power amp which I used with a Croft pre quite happily for a couple of years but thought i'd try the Tisbury since it was relatively cheap (not a bad thing). And I can't stop myself tinkering with the system.

My main source is Squeezebox 3 into an M2TEch Young DAC and then into a pair of EB Acoustic EB2's using a mixture of Reference Components/Mark Grant Cables/Tellerium Q speaker cables.

Over the past few days the sound (to my ears anyway) does match very closely the Croft Pre - there is perhaps a slight reduction in bass 'slam'.

Think the Tisbury will be staying in the system for a good while!

I'm not an expert in describing what I hear - but ultimately it does 'sound' good to me and that's all that matters:)
