You've made a modern Lecson:

I used to have one of the preamps but never had the poweramp,

What amp board is it ?

It utilizes the excellent Philips TDA 8920B Class D chip.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/YJ-Mini-100W-100W-TDA8920-Class-D-amplifier-board-new-/190819452723?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Amplifier_Parts&hash=item2c6db9c733

These use better inductors in the output filter stage.

The transformer has two 18v secondaries to give around 26/27v dc which is just about spot on.
Sounds better than the older designed Tripath chips imo.

Yeah, that's a good fun project!

All you need now is a couple of teapots turned into small speakers.

Really like it!! Clever use of a mundane tin.

If you are a Top Gear fan you need to label it 'Larsen's Biscuits'. :)

You could be onto something there - a whole WAF-Friendly kitchen system - how about a toaster turned into a CD player? :)

Must say I'd have been tempted to have it horizontal like a Musical-Fidelity X component... Might take up too much space that way though.

Oh thank goodness Dave! I read this thread and was really disappointed. Not because I don't think its a brilliant project, but because I had been getting sucked into serious debates which were winding me up, and thought this was a straight silly.

My apologies if necessary for turning it back into one. My vote goes to Hobnobs! :)

Glad to be of service Richard and with mucho apologies to James, but with a thread title and project enclosure such as this things were bound to get a little bit silly. Very nice project by the way James but maybe next time it might be advisable to leave some space for some nicely baked cookies. One could always start them off in the oven then finish them off in the tin, I'm sure the gentle but consistent heat would produce excellent results :)

Yes I've built amps using the UCD modules 180st and 400ad.
Good results were had but I feel the Hypex stuff is over priced. Didn't Bruno Putzeys work for Philips in 2005 possibly on this technology?
