Since I was a lad of about 11 my music of choice was Motown, Jazz-Funk, Fusion, Soul, Reggae (some) and a bit of Disco (well quite a lot actually:D) The
70's 80's and 90's were good times IMO so far as new and interesting music and artists was concerned. The 90's brought the emergence of Acid-Jazz (some good, some terrible) Forward to the last 5 years or so and it has been really hard for me to find anything that is not a re-hash of tunes of the last 20 years, that is fresh and excites me. I have bought about 3 CDs in the last 3 years and those were pretty mediocre, by artists that I have been a fan of for years. Smooth Jazz has been derided for years, but it was/is what got my mojo working as they say.
So I started to look for something a bit different and searching Spotify. I have found that there is a lot of great Dub style stuff in there. Having been brought up in Battersea it was impossible to walk down the road without hearing some infectious bass riffs escaping from houses or cars or some of the record shops that were around at the time.
I would call it the soundtrack of the city and the summer in particular. It transports me back to simpler times (ain't nostalgia great:lol:) simple riddims - simple times:D Oh yeah I like a bit of Two-Tone stuff as well.
If you want to give it a try, listen to International Observer - Heard (Album) This outfit was put together by Tom Bailey ex lead singer of the Thompson Twins, a rather radical diversion!
